Epokale 2016: the new vintage of Italian white wine that climbs to the top of the collectible wine market

The Epokale project was born almost fifteen years ago from the desire of the oenologist Willi Stürz to redefine the boundaries and identity of the Gewürztraminer grape variety, on which to shape the qualitative summit of Cantina Tramin . Years of study, application and continuous improvements have given life to a memorable, rare wine, capable of establishing itself in the signature restaurant circuit and among collectors of fine wines. Epokale , in fact, is the Italian white wine that records a greater and constant percentage growth in price - reaching 110% - and therefore in value , in the secondary market* , i.e. the place where the exchanges of securities already in circulation take place. There are several pieces that, together, make up the uniqueness of Gewürztraminer Spätlese: the peculiarity of production, which involves aging for six years in the dark of the Ridanna Monteneve mine at a constant temperature and humidity, the aging potential of over twenty years, limited edition and careful distribution. The 2016 vintage was characterized by a very sunny autumn, which led to an exceptional physiological maturation of particularly healthy bunches. The residual sugar is 64 g/l , higher than the previous ones, even the 2015 with which a change of direction towards a sweeter and more intense profile was started. “2016 was one of the best years of the past decade for wines made from Gewürztraminer grapes – explains Willi Stürz , oenologist and technical director of Cantina Tramin –. The optimal weather conditions allowed us to harvest at the end of October, with a slight overripeness of the grapes which thus developed a broad aromatic spectrum. The result is a very rich, concentrated wine, reminiscent of the 2009 vintage”.
