In Campania the "geological mark" of wine has been identified thanks to geology
A study conducted by the Campania Universities of Sannio, Federico II, Second University and by the University of Vienna has investigated the wine industry trying to prove the influence of mineralogy, petrology and geochemistry of the substrate on which vines grow, "readable" in the form of the isotope ratio of the "strontium" chemical element.
The survey has been carried out in the vineyards of Campi Flegrei, home of the Piedirosso grape variety.
«The research allows us to outline a wine taking into consideration aspects related to the geological substrate on which the soil has developed, which then gave birth to the vine» the oenologist Vincenzo Mercurio explains.
«The scientific model, in the near future, will be able to return promising results even in other gastronomic fields, from tomatoes to olive oil».
