If you drink moderately during pregnancy, the baby will not be affected: this is the result of research at University College London published in the International Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
For the research 10,000 babies of women who drank under 175 ml of wine a week during pregnancy were examined. Babies do not have a higher incidence of cognitive or behavioral problems than babies of mothers who had abstained from drinking.
Indeed cognitive performance in maths, reading and spatial skills of children, had even better better scores on cognitive tests than children born to non-drinkers.
"Although the best advice is to avoid alcohol if you are pregnant, - the researchers say - this research can reassure mothers who drank occasionally without realizing to be pregnant".
