In Italy, the first competition dedicated to rosé wines is held under the good auspices of the Minister of Agriculture Mario Catania, the President of the Puglia Region Nichi Vendola, the Councilor for Agriculture of the Puglia Region Dario Stefano and Antonio Calò dell ' Accademia of Vine and Wine.
This "National Wine Competition of Italian Rosé Wines " includes the categories: "Still", "Sparkling" and "Sparkling", in turn divided into "Dop" and "Igp" categories.
It starts from Puglia more precisely from Bari where the first selections have already been that will lead to the winners in Otranto on May 5, 2012.
An important showcase for this wine, rosé, which is an important slice of the market for Italy: we are second in Europe for quantity of production and consumption trends are growing.
Here are the words of Minister Catania to explain the reasons for this event:
"This initiative of the competition serves to fill a profound injustice towards a product, rosé, which had the meaning of a sub-category without equal dignity of white and red wine because it was considered a hybrid. And the paradox is that in Italy it was not understood that we make the best rosé in the world , and we did it even before the French ".
