De Girolamo meets the Consortia for the Protection of DOP–IGP

On 18 December, an important meeting of the Minister of Agriculture, Food and Forestry Nunzia De Girolamo and Aicig, Association of Consortia for the Protection of DOP and IGP products.

The main issues related to protection and enhancement, especially abroad, of the DOP and IGP products: these are the issues that the Minister and the President of the Italian Association of Geographical Indications Consortia, Giuseppe Liberatore, will face.

259 products entered in the UE register, of which 158 DOP and 101 IGP: these DOP and IGP products continue to show positive trends.

The state of good health of the industry is confirmed by the main economic indicators reported for 2012: a product volume of 1.3 million tonnes, of which 32% is exported, for a value of approximately 2.5 billion Euro with an increase of 4.6% over the previous year, a sales volume on the production of approximately 7 billion Euro and on the consumption of about 12.6 billion Euro.
