Based on the information available, this is a center for the recovery of domestic organic waste, with a capacity of approximately 55,000 tons per year, equal to half the quantity produced by the entire Metropolitan City of Turin . Considering that the organic fraction of urban solid waste (Forsu) produced by the entire Turin area is about 133,000 tons per year and that most of it is acquired by Acea di Pinerolo, which, among other things, will increase its capacity to 90,000 tons per year, and that other similar plants are present in the area, it is clear that the waste treated by the new plant will mainly come from other provinces or other Italian regions. " Confagricoltura - declares the director of the organization Ercole Zuccaro - has carried out a technical analysis of the situation with local farmers, comparing it with the local populations and with the municipal administrations of the area: while recognizing the validity of the solution, which aims to enhance of the refusal, we are opposed to the identification of the site as it presents a series of extremely negative factors for the territory, agricultural activity and the rural environment ". The technicians of the Confagricoltura area note that the waste water from the plant could be poured into the neighboring canal, used by the farms in the area, some of which addressed to organic production, to irrigate meadows and arable land. In addition, about 100 road trains will pass through the plant every day for the transport of waste and for the collection of biomethane: currently the road has a narrow width that makes it impossible for a truck and an agricultural vehicle to pass simultaneously. " We want to point out to the institutions - underlines the president of Confagricoltura Turin Tommaso Visca - that the planned plant will occupy an area of 30,000 square meters, of which 26,000 in agricultural area, with an important consumption of land. Confagricoltura believes that we should not further penalize an area already crossed by the Turin - Milan motorway and where there are other plants for waste disposal. "For these reasons - concludes the president of Confagricoltura Turin Tommaso Visca - we will be alongside the agricultural world and rural populations to fight the activation of the plant, inviting the competent administrations to identify other sites where to allocate it, possibly in industrial areas that are certainly not lacking in the Turin area ".
