  • 16/06/2020

On the occasion of the Veneto Agriculture Wine Triptych, the two Consortia spoke about the harvest forecasts, favorable for native and late grapes such as Tai Rosso and Garganega

A positive year ahead for the producers of the Consorzio Vini Colli Berici and Vicenza and of the Consorzio Tutela Vini Gambellara . This was reported by Giovanni Ponchia , Director of both consortium realities, on the occasion of the Wine Triptych , the initiative organized by Veneto Agricoltura which three times a year takes stock of the vegetative and phytosanitary state of viticulture in the Veneto , also relating it to the weather trend in the first half of the year. “Even if it is premature to affirm it with certainty - explains Giovanni Ponchia - we can think that this will be an optimal year for late varieties . The autochthonous vines symbol of the two consortia, Tai Rosso for the Berici Hills and Garganega for Gambellara, record a good uniformity in the conformation of future bunches, despite the discreet advance in the phenological phases. The absence of hailstorms and the rains of the last few days, which have restored the water reserves of both territories, give us hope for a favorable harvest, which could start ten days in advance ". From the analyzes of the Consorzio Tutela Vini Colli Berici and Vicenza a slight suffering of the early varieties emerged, in particular Pinot and Chardonnay, for which a significant drop in yield is expected. Next to them, a discrepancy was also found in the different phenological phases for Cabernet and Merlot: the vines seem to be affected by the excess of rainfall in 2019 and have slightly weakened branches, which will lead to a probable decrease between 5 and 10% of the yield .
