The COLDIRETTI SHAREHOLDERS 'MEETING revealed that if the retail shelf no longer has Italian products, there is a loss of well over 10 billion.
"The made in Italy shelf that doesn't exist
more". Coldiretti proposed to the National Assembly an idea of how many historical Italian brands have passed into hands
foreigners from the beginning of the crisis to today.
President Coldiretti Sergio Marini said: "The change of ownership often has meaning
financial depletion of acquired companies, relocation of production, closure of factories and loss of employment. This is why we need to accelerate the construction of an all-Italian agricultural supply chain that sees farmers directly as protagonists to ensure the link with the territory ".
Examples in the field of wine?
The Gancia sparkling wine house purchased in 2011 at 70% by the Russian magnate Rustam Tariko, and lastly the Casanova - La Ripintura farm in Greve in Chianti (in the heart of the Gallo Nero DOCG) bought by a Hong Kong entrepreneur.
But there are also on the list
Orzo Bimbo, Parmalat, Galbani, Perugina for a turnover of around 10 billion euros. And if it is true that eight Italians
out of ten try to fill the cart with 100% Italian products (Coldiretti data) it is the same
easy time to be misled. Above all, investments are clear indications of the state of health
Italian agri-food. "It is the demonstration of how hungry for Italy is in the world", Marini reiterated "with a dramatic escalation, unfortunately, in the loss of our heritage". If, in fact, foreigners decide to invest in agri-food
Italian, it is because it is a sector that is doing well and that over time has been able to conquer an image
of safety, typicality and quality. This is also demonstrated by the export data: in 2003 the record of 34 billion was reached
euros of Italian food exported, especially to Africa (+ 31% compared to last year), to Asian countries (+ 13%) and
in America (+ 9%). Growth in Europe, on the other hand, is weak, where it does not go beyond 3%. And if fruit and vegetables is the most product
exported (+ 7%), wine is the one that grows the most (+ 10%). Moreover, according to Coldiretti Italy goes to the top
of food safety with the lowest number (only 0.3%) of agri-food products with chemical residues over the limit
allowed. The average European irregularity is 1.5%, the non-EU one 7.9%.
