The CIA (Italian Farmers Confederation) will show tomorrow in Rome a bill of popular initiative to regulate relations between agriculture and large-scale distribution.
The purpose of the bill is to make the supply chain transparent and block "the market distortions that penalize farmers and consumers".
As the CIA points out: "Prices from field to table rise by 900%, farmers are on the brink and consumers forced to shop at discount stores (...) the need to improve relations between the productive world and large-scale distribution is clear and clarify the price formation mechanisms, avoid speculation and excess of 'monopoly' positions
According to the CIA "in our country the concentration of market shares in the hands of a few groups is causing restrictions on competition, with negative effects on the quality of employment, on environmental protection and on the final consumer. The process of strong limitation of demand to a very small number of purchasing centers and the persistence of a multitude of suppliers, made up of small and medium-sized enterprises - concludes the CIA - have determined a situation of profound imbalance in commercial relations between sellers and distributors ".
