Cantine di Verona closes the 2023 harvest with a positive balance overall in the three plants of Cantina Valpantena, Cantina di Custoza and Cantina Colli Morenici, where the over 500 members have contributed. The trend of the vintage, also characterized by rainfall and adverse phenomena in some cases, often required the intervention of the technical staff of the cooperative winemaking group who were able to assist and provide advice to the members. “In general, 2023 can be considered a good vintage thanks to the more favorable weather conditions compared to 2022, with beautiful days characterized by a sunny climate during the day and cool at night – explains Michele Peroni , winemaker at Cantine di Verona who followed the harvest in the factories in Quinto di Valpantena and Ponti sul Mincio – The Valpantena area, which saw a 15% increase compared to the previous year, did not suffer significant hailstorms and for this reason the grapes arriving in the cellar were of better quality and quantity. We collected healthy and ripe bunches in color and sugar level even in the most difficult areas and with regards to drying grapes". Valuable bunches also at Cantina di Custoza . “Apart from the areas affected by the hail phenomena, Custoza experienced a good quality vintage characterized by excellent aromatic and acidic maturity of the grapes, with yields per hectare attested around the values foreseen by the specifications – explains Luca Oliosi , oenologist responsible for the plant –. Thanks to our agronomic team we promptly managed the difficult meteorological season that characterized the post-flowering period, allowing us to safeguard production in qualitative and quantitative terms. From the first wines obtained from the 2023 harvest, the technical sector expressed itself with optimism regarding the new vintages". The plant pressed about 20% less than in previous years due to the adverse weather events at the end of July, which however significantly affected only a portion of the territory in which the members' vineyards extend. The harvest which began on 16 August ended first in Ponti sul Mincio on Tuesday 3 October, then in Custoza on Tuesday 10 and finally in Quinto di Valpantena on Monday 23 October.
