Cantina Vignaioli Morellino di Scansano closes the financial statements with an increase in turnover of 4% on the previous year. In the 2022-2023 financial year the cooperative, which this year celebrated its first fifty years of activity, went from 14.9 to 15.5 million euros. The Italian large-scale retail channel recorded a growth of 10% , partly linked to the possibility of returning to regular promotional activity. HORECA also increased , albeit to a lesser extent (5%) compared to the post-pandemic performance, and the export share , especially in China and Asian markets. The winery also continues to represent a point of reference for the wine tourism offer in the area, recording a 22% increase in guided tastings compared to the previous year. “Despite the critical moment for the wine market, both in Italy and abroad – declares Benedetto Grechi , President of the Cantina Vignaioli Morellino di Scansano – we managed to maintain the same payments for the members as the previous year, rewarding them for their many sacrifices that they are doing, given that the increase in costs also affects the management of the vineyard. A result that satisfies us, even if we hope to increase liquidations in the next financial year". “The performance – continues General Director Sergio Bucci – must be read in light of the cost increases that everyone knows well. It was foreseeable that this situation would have an important impact on this exercise. To limit its effects, an increase in price lists was necessary, which however only came into force halfway through the year and which, in any case, we limited as much as possible (3%). We will have to wait until next year to understand if this operation will succeed in maintaining the desired margins, but the estimates and sales results for the last quarter of 2023 - which are not part of the exercise of this budget - give us hope". At the same meeting in which the budget was approved, the elections of the new Board of Directors also took place, which sees the majority of the outgoing directors reconfirmed and is committed to working in the direction of continuity, following the philosophy attentive to quality, respect of the consumer and the environment that distinguishes the cooperative's work. Finally, it is worth mentioning an interesting piece of data that emerged from the winery's sustainability report , separate from the corporate one but closed on the same days. The measurements made allowed us to find a 7% reduction in emissions in the production of Morellino di Scansano Docg in the period between 2020 and 2023. A lower impact measured for the VIVA Sustainable Wine certification can be attributed above all to the management of the vineyard, increasingly sustainable thanks to the SOS Wine forecasting system, as well as the progress made in the other phases of the product life cycle (packaging, cellar, distribution and product)
