Cantina Settecani, three proposals in the name of sustainability

Respect for the environment, the territory and the people who work there. From the VIVA certification to the organic one, the Emilian cooperative, located in the heart of Grasparossa, presents three wines that interpret its sustainable approach with consistency and concreteness.

The custody of the territory, not only from an environmental point of view, but also from an ethical and social point of view; the meticulous care of the entire cycle of work in the vineyard; the assessment of the impact on climate change of all company practices; the careful and conscious management of a vital and precious resource such as water.

These are essential aspects in the daily work of Cantina Settecani , a cooperative established almost 100 years ago, in 1923, in the homonymous hamlet of Settecani, on the border of the Modena localities of Castelvetro, Castelnuovo Rangone and Spilamberto. " Sustainability for our 180 members is not a slogan, but a conscious approach that is constantly pursued and monitored through scientifically recognized indicators, developed on the basis of international standards " explains Paolo Martinelli , President of Cantina Settecani. " This is why in 2016 our company obtained the first VIVA product certification, to which in 2019 the one extended to the whole company was added ". All consumers, thanks to the presence of a QRCode on the labels of wines that have obtained the VIVA certification, can consult in detail what are the parameters that the company must respect.

A philosophy that then translates into the glass through the production of wines that manage to combine the values of sustainability with a quality that aims at enhancing the territory of origin and the most typical grapes, starting with Lambrusco and Pignoletto.

The "7Note" Spumante Pignoletto Modena DOC, certified VIVA , is part of the "Sette" line of Cantina Settecani, created to enhance, through the sparkling process with the traditional Martinotti Method, a part of the best grapes from the winery's vineyards. After a soft pressing and a skin maceration, the wine is obtained which is refermented in an autoclave with a long aging of 90 days on the lees to obtain a greater personality and richness from an organoleptic point of view. Delicately floral and with pleasant fruity notes, this interpretation of Pignoletto manages to combine the drinkability of the sip, which has always been one of the peculiar characteristics of this wine, with versatility at the table, becoming an excellent companion both during the aperitif and with dishes based on of fish or white meat.

In the "Vini del Re" Selection, one of the flagships of Cantina Settecani's production, also with VIVA certification, is the dry Lambrusco Grasparossa di Castelvetro Dop , award-winning in many wine competitions, such as 5StarWines di Vinitaly, Competition International Wine City of Wine, Prague Wine Tropy, The Champagne & Sparkling Wine World Championships. It comes from a careful selection of grapes grown on the slopes with the best exposure and blends together the intensity and maturity of the fruity notes reminiscent of raspberries and blueberries with the more balsamic ones. On the palate, freshness, softness and a delicate perlage allow combinations both with meat-based first courses and with second courses of excellent persistence.

Another wine that perfectly expresses Cantina Settecani's sustainable philosophy is the dry "7Bio" Lambrusco Grasparossa di Castelvetro DOP . Produced with grapes from organic farming, this Lambrusco has a very elegant gait, both in the aromas, delicately fruity, and on the palate where a barely hinted tannic texture envelops a sip of excellent flavor and persistence. Also in this case the traditional combinations, from cured meats accompanied by tigelle and fried gnocco, or first courses of excellent intensity, are able to marry beautifully with this Lambrusco of strong personality.

" These are three wines that well represent the path on the road to sustainability that our winery has been following for some time now " concludes Fabrizio Amorotti , Cantina Settecani's commercial director. "Our goal is to be able to coherently transmit the values of our viticulture, respectful of the environment and people, within sincere wines strongly linked to the traditions present on our hills. They are wines that know how to accompany the most daily, but also those of the holidays, such as Christmas, perfectly matching with more complex and rich preparations " .
