The European Commission is undertaking the issue of the nutritional value on the label. And just the assumption that the provision in derogation for wine ends, makes the wrists of those who produce glasses with increased caloric intake shake.
In Google the interest for research intersecting the words "calories" and "wine" see the United States (100) in first place, followed by the UK (66), Canada (63), Australia (50) and France (25); all markets of strong interest in the export of Italian wine.
The introduction of mandatory nutrition declaration on the labels of wine "would be another disaster – Domenico Zonin, Chairman of the Italian Wine Union, commented – especially for small producers who have the label as sole communication tool. In general, it would be a communication that distorts a tradition of moderate consumption of which we are the first spokesman. Also it would be for the world of wine an improper homologation to the risks of an unhealthy food in which we do not recognize ourselves. You can not throw away our culture of moderate drinking with the wrong political choices".
