The Bottega company, a winery and distillery from Bibano di Godega (TV), has created a limited edition rainbow Magnum version of the iconic Bottega Gold, to remember Nelson Mandela 10 years after his death. Madiba, as he was affectionately called by his compatriots, was the architect of the new South Africa, the "rainbow nation", i.e. rainbow like the multiple skin tones of its inhabitants. Nelson Mandela (1918-2013) was the first black president of the Republic of South Africa. His political activity was significant: he fought for the rights of blacks in South Africa all his life, spending 27 years in prison. In the early 1990s Mandela was a decisive figure for the end of apartheid, the South African system of racial segregation. For his commitment he received a Nobel Peace Prize in 1993. After the presidency of South Africa (1994-1999) Mandela continued to fight for social justice throughout the world. In a period marked by ongoing conflicts, which take us back to the darkest moments of modern history, the Treviso winery and distillery celebrates a great man of peace. Sandro Bottega, president of Bottega SpA , declares: "Remembering the men and women who fought for peace is a way of demonstrating that altruism, foresight and dialogue are the most effective tools for putting an end to apparently intractable disputes. In 1995, on the occasion of the Rugby World Cup, a traditionally white sport, Mandela was able to unify the country, bringing all South Africans (white, black, mixed-race) to cheer for the national team and celebrate the victory on the field."
