The general manager of Bisol, Gianluca Bisol, declared from Shanghai to be satisfied with the success of Italian sparkling wines: Italy and France.
In the first half of 2012, imports of Champagne and other French sparkling wines grew by 40%, for 880,000 liters, those of Prosecco and other Italian bubbles by 87%, to 822,000 liters.
The value is not at the level of France but we are thriving with products of a good level In value we are still far away, even if, for example, "in the case of Prosecco we are able to be present with products of a good standard, which the importer sells to the restaurant to 15 euros and even more, in the case of Cartizze, and which on the menu also reaches 180 euros, is a crazy result overall for our sparkling wines if you consider that, in still wines, France exports 55 million to China liters of wine, and Italy just 9, less than Australia and Spain. As Winenews writes, 2012 could mark the overtaking in quantity of Italian sparkling wines over transalpine ones: furthermore, Gianluca Bisol underlines that imports of still wines in China have grown only 13% over 2011, that of bubbles, overall, 55%.
It is now essential to focus on strategic marketing and high-level promotion projects for Made in Italy wine. The reason for the success, explains Bisol, is due to a matter of tastes Chinese palates prefer aromatic and fruity sparkling wines (so much so that the extra-dry type is better than the brut). The French are also exploiting the Italian image: Bisol's importer is French and French chains are opening Italian restaurants.
Bisol's conclusion is that "we producers understand that if we move together, with an organic marketing and promotion project on Italy in wine, we can seize a great opportunity in what is undoubtedly the No. 1 market of the future. And so far we haven't done it enough. And we risk, as a wine system, losing a colossal opportunity ".
