The Wine National Committee has approved the liberalization of the use of all types of corks for bottles of Bardolino and Chiaretto.
The Consortium for the Protection of Bardolino has received the approval for the modification to the specification by the Wines National Committee: now the Article 8 of the specification of Bardolino and Chiaretto provides that "it is mandatory the use of traditional glass bottles and flasks", without any indication of the type of closure (which, however, was expressly stated previously).
"The liberalization of the closing systems of our bottles of wines - the president of the Consortium for the Protection of Bardolino, Giorgio Tommasi, says - was a need felt to respond effectively to the demand from retailers and consumers especially in many countries within and outside Europe, which show a growing interest in wines packed with alternative closures compared to the traditional cork or synthetic material, particularly in case of ready to drink wines like ours. Just issued a decree that allowed to revise the old rules, the board of directors and the shareholders' assembly of the Consortium of Bardolino have approved the modification in the specification, exceeding all previous instructions that impeded the free use of any form of closure. Now the Wines National Committee, which deserves gratitute for its demonstrated sensitivity, has approved the change of the specification, so that the alternative closures, finally, are no longer a taboo".
