"Count Paolo Marzotto, our forward-looking founder who believed in Sicily and its terroirs, has left us" comments his Sicilian team

On Monday 25 May at the age of 89, Count Paolo Marzotto, founder of Baglio di Pianetto, a winery with headquarters and vineyards in the territory of Santa Cristina Gela, a few kilometers from Palermo passed away.

"It is a very sad day not only for us, but for all those who believe in our land - comments the CEO Renato De Bartoli - because a man of undisputed generosity and proven entrepreneurial skills greeted us, who has always believed in Sicily and its potential ".

Founded in 1997, and a year later expanded with the acquisition of the estate in Val di Noto, Baglio di Pianetto has always represented for Conte Paolo Marzotto the transformation of a passion - that for Sicily and wine -, but above all the opportunity to enhance a territory he loved through the creation of a business that could create tangible value. "The Count fell in love with this island since he was a child, so much so that there is an episode in which at the age of 7, during a trip to these parts, he asked his mother to buy him a bottle of wine" continues De Bartoli. "He started his project here, creating work and wealth for our territory and helping to make a public of connoisseurs appreciate it and not only the great Sicilian wines, from Nero d'Avola to Insolia".

"We will always remember the person's promptness of mind, lucidity, intelligence, great intuition. We will not forget his courageous choice, made at 72 years old, when he could have serenely spent the rest of his life after a long entrepreneurial activity in the world Instead, he chose to get back into the game, always loving the world of wine. He decided to start again and focused on Sicily to invest, he who was a profound connoisseur of the most famous French terroirs and the most suitable present in the North Italy".

Today, before being a company, Baglio di Pianetto represents a fairy tale that has become a reality, which employs over fifty employees and is appreciated both in Italy and abroad by lovers of "made in Sicily". "We will miss his advice and his fortitude very much - concludes De Bartoli - and it seems that even around here nature has noticed it: last night the light was different, the shades of the sunset seemed different to us, almost as a tribute to the greatness of the person, of an enlightened entrepreneur that all of Sicily has lost. However, we know at the same time that we are now even more responsible for a great legacy. Together with the daughters, the wife, all the family members, to whom we are close in this moment of pain, we are more determined than ever to carry on the memory of his name with the excellence of the wines that are born from his genius and his great love for the Sicilian lands ".
