“Easy talking about wine”: the new Best AIS Sommelier of Lombardy Gastaldi

Filippo Gastaldi, newly elected “Best Sommelier of Lombardy 2014” made a personal appeal to wine communication: «Wine is a thing for young people, but to spread the culture of drinking well»

«We need to talk easy, not making believe that the choice of a glass is a stumbling block. The phrase "I am not familiar with wine" is a lame excuse, because the commitment of wine merchants, managers of venues and wine bars and sommeliers has to make wine more usable. The language of pundits and the idea that only connoisseurs can drink well are banned».

«Masterchef is a program that knows how to speak to young people but so far has neglected wine – Gastaldi says – it should begin to talk about it and make tastings more casual. Informality, however, does not mean lack of professionalism, that indeed must grow. There are still too few restaurants that give importance to wine. I am an oenologist, work in a winery, and sell wine in my family’s winehouse, I want to experience wine from A to Z. So I want wine to have a future, and within the reach of young people like me».
