At Vinitaly 2014 the Marche region launches a campaign against counterfeiters of wine.
On Monday, April 7th, at the fair, the Marche Institute for the Protection of Wines (Imt) and the Polytechnic University of Marche reveal dangers, secrets and lies of the wine kit. At the Marche’s stand a comparative tasting between true and false Verdicchio "dei Castelli Canadesi" will take place, completed by a product analysis. Fakes subtract to the Italian agrifood industry € 60 billion a year, with at least 20 million bottles of fake wine produced with "powders" mainly from the U.S., Canada and Great Britain.
«Everyone talks about the infamous kit to produce the worldwide renowed Italian wines – the director of the Marche Institute for the Protection of Wines, Alberto Mazzoni, said – but no one has ever bothered to ’look the monster in its eyes’. With this initiative we denounce a mystification that, day by day, is taking away more and more market space to us and, in addition to this, offers a product that has nothing to do with Verdicchio, an inimitable wine, the result of specific techniques and inextricably linked to its territory. Therefore, a broad protection action is needed – Mazzoni said – but also an action to sensitize the public on the quality front and on certification». The event is also attended by the Councillor for Agriculture of the Marche Region, Maura Malaspina and Neri Marcorè.
