Amelia is the name of the new Doc that affects two native vines of the province of Terni such as Ciliegiolo and Grechetto , as well as Vin Santo Occhio di Pernice.
After Montefalco, Orvieto and Torgiano, the region now includes a new wine city-area corresponding to the territories of lower Umbria, known as the Amerini Hills.
The municipalities forming part of the new DOC are: Attigliano, Giove, Penna in Teverina, Alviano, Amelia, Calvi dell'Umbria, Guardea, Lugnano in Teverina, Montecastrilli, Narni, Otricoli, Sangemini, Stroncone and Terni; the wineries belonging to the Consortium for the Protection of Doc. Amelia wines are: Agraria Ponteggia, Ruffo Della Scaletta Farm, Zanchi Farm, Cantina dei Colli Amerini, Castello delle Regine, La Palazzola, Le Poggette, Marchesi Fezia.
The name of the new Doc is given by a famous Umbrian city with a very ancient wine tradition.
The Denomination is the result of 2 years of work carried out by the Amelia Doc Protection Consortium in close collaboration with the leading experts in the sector in order to give authority to this Doc in Italy and abroad.
The specification provides:
- the reduction of the production per hectare of grapes
- details of the vinification, storage, maturation, refinement and bottling operations and which are carried out exclusively in the production area.
The companies of the Consortium for the Protection of DOC AMELIA wines are: Agraria Ponteggia, Ruffo Della Scaletta Agricultural Company, Azienda Aricola Zanchi, Cantina dei Colli Amerini, Castello delle Regine, La Palazzola, Le Poggette, Marchesi Fezia.
The recognition of this Doc is an important result for the recognition of a territory suited to the production of wines with personality and not yet esteemed in the Italian wine scene.
