With an increase in members of 15% in the two-year period 2021-2023 , AIS Veneto confirms itself as a point of reference for the dissemination of knowledge of the world of wine in general and the valorisation of Venetian wines in particular. Thanks to the commitment to training new professional figures, the promotion of the regional wine heritage and the organization of events for sommeliers and wine lovers , the association now has more than 500 new members in two years - from December 2021 to December 2023 - , for a total of 3977 members (compared to 3458 in 2021). “The growth we are recording in recent years is a source of great pride – declares Gianpaolo Breda , president of AIS Veneto – because our goal has always been to spread the knowledge and culture of wine. Since 1971, the year our association was founded, we have never stopped, not even during Covid. Indeed, the numbers also increased during the pandemic, thanks to the organization of online courses in 2021, before returning to in-person teaching in 2022. Every year, throughout the region, we provide courses to become Sommeliers and many opportunities, for those who have already completed the course, to perfect their preparation with further levels of in-depth analysis, updates, seminars and specialization courses". The growth of the association is in fact accompanied by the launch of the new training courses scheduled to start in January and February 2024. With a total of 33 courses , divided into three levels and distributed throughout the provinces , AIS Veneto offers an opportunity to aspiring Sommeliers of the whole region. The first level provides a solid introduction, covering key aspects of viticulture, oenology and service, fundamental knowledge for practicing the Sommelier profession. The students can learn the correct temperature of the glass, acquire information on the legislation of the sector and, in addition to wine, learn the fundamentals of beers and spirits, all constantly accompanied by theoretical and practical tests on the tasting technique. With the transition to the second level , the students deepen the link between wine and the territory, both Italian and foreign, while the constant improvement of the tasting technique becomes a discriminating element for appreciating every single nuance and expressing a professional and objective judgement. Finally, the third level deals with the delicate art of food-wine pairing through practical tasting tests with different types of foods and preparations. At the end of the training course, the students take a qualifying exam, following which they obtain the title of Sommelier.
