XVI NATIONAL MEETING OF TRIFULAU AND “TABUI”

Everything is ready in Canale for the sixteenth edition of the National Gathering of Trifulau and “Tabui”, an event promoted by the Enoteca Regionale del Roero, a one-of-a-kind event that celebrates the true protagonists of the search for the precious truffle: truffle dogs and their tireless diggers, the trifulau.

This annual event represents a precious opportunity to share and celebrate a tradition deeply rooted in the Roero region, combining culture, nature, handed down knowledge, and passion. Each year, it attracts participants from various Italian regions.

The National Gathering day will see the presence of over 150 trifulau with their tabui, together with the main trade organizations linked to the world of truffle hunting.

The program includes the meeting of the participants, a simulated truffle hunt, a parade of truffle hunters and dogs through the historic center of Canale (starting around 10:30 a.m.) , a greeting from the authorities, a blessing of the dogs with the award ceremony, and, following this, the traditional lunch this year in Piobesi d'Alba at the Multifunctional Hall.

The day will be preceded on Saturday, January 10, by the musical show “A Toast in Voice and Sound for the Roero,” curated by Claudio Calorio, hosted at the Cascina Chicco winery.

"This Gathering," says Marco Perosino, President of the Enoteca Regionale del Roero, "represents a moment of great significance for our region and for a community that preserves an authentic tradition. The presence of trade organizations and over 150 trifulau (truffle hunters) with their dogs confirms the national importance of the event. We arrive at this event at the end of an overall positive truffle season, which concludes on January 31st, and the Gathering thus also becomes a time for reflection, discussion, and celebration. It is a highly anticipated event, capable of engaging professionals, enthusiasts, and the public, in the spirit of respect for the environment and the work of the trifulau (truffle hunters)."

The National Gathering of Trifulau and "Tabui" confirms itself not only as an attractive event, but as a living cultural heritage, a symbol of the profound bond between man, dog, and the land. Here is the program for Sunday, January 11, 2026 - Gathering Day.

Piazza Italia in Canale:

9:00 a.m.: Trifulau gather for registration and breakfast.

9:30 am: Simulated truffle hunting demonstration, with dogs engaging in a fascinating display of their skills.

10:30 a.m.: Parade through the historic center, an evocative moment that will see trifulau and dogs march through the city streets.

11:00 a.m.: Greetings from the Authorities, Blessing of the Dogs, and Awards Ceremony.

Among the guests of honor at the event are some athletes from Cuneo Volley (Men's Superleague) and other surprise guests. The day will conclude with a special lunch at the Salone Polifunzionale in Piobesi d'Alba , where Cantamessa catering will offer a menu in honor of the occasion, paired with Roero wines. The lunch, which includes traditional dishes such as capon salad, risotto with Sanfrè al Roero rice, and meat plin, is available by reservation.
