Schiava Trophy of South Tyrol 2020 8-9 June 2020

In 2004 the South Tyrolean Schiava Trophy was created by Ulrich Ladurner, Othmar Kiem and Günther Hölzl to promote the quality of the Schiava (Vernatsch). The unique atmosphere of the Vigilius Mountain Resort, an internationally designed and designed hotel, offers the ideal stage for this authentic and typical South Tyrolean wine. After almost twenty years we can say: mission accomplished! The Schiava area has shrunk in size over time and from mass wine it has become a regional specialty. Elegant and fragrant red wines are back in fashion and the South Tyrolean Schiava finds more and more followers, even outside the borders of the province. Finally, many young winemakers from South Tyrol believe in Schiava again. 85 wines will participate in the competition , mainly from the excellent 2019 vintage. In a multi-stage selection process, an international jury made up of experts from South Tyrol, Italy, Germany and Switzerland will choose the best Vernatsch of the year. Thanks to the generous space available at the vigilius mountain resort, we are able to maintain all the necessary safety distances and to comply with the rules imposed by Priovincia. The winners of the respective categories will be determined on Monday 8 June. But Schiava does not want to be just a competition wine for experts, but must remain an immediate, gentle and accessible wine for all fans. For this reason, a group of enthusiasts is traditionally invited to select the wine preferred by the public among the Slaves of the year. In this special year, this honorable task will be carried out by the staff of the vigilius mountain resort. Finally, on Tuesday 9 June, the Slaves of the year will be announced. Unfortunately, this time the Vernatsch Gala must be canceled. However, thanks to the collaboration with the Alto Adige Wine Consortium , it will be possible for all South Tyrolean wine lovers to follow the award ceremony through a livestream on social networks .
