Telling the story of wine through a journey Storytelling, research, sustainability

The competition notice expires on 30 June 2024.

On the occasion of Vinitaly 2024, the Go Wine association promotes the twenty-third edition of the "Drinking Territory" National Literary Competition, launching the Competition Notice.

It is a cultural project that has always accompanied the life of the association since its establishment, characterizing itself as a qualifying initiative for Go Wine and always very popular.

A message that Go Wine launches in favor of the culture of wine and which is linked to a country like Italy, guardian of civilization and rural traditions.

To underline how the cultural theme is the basis of the valorisation of an extraordinary product of the earth, capable of linking roots and future, and of being today one of the most appreciated ambassadors of Made in Italy.

The Notice is released a few months ahead of the usual times of all previous editions, with a deadline for submitting the submissions on June 30, 2024 .

The awards ceremony is scheduled for Saturday 28 September at the Grinzane Cavour Castle.

Storytelling, research, sustainability: these are the watchwords that characterize this edition. Partly renewing the profile of an initiative that reaches the significant milestone of the 23rd edition, this is also a sign of constant commitment on the part of the association.

The Competition remains faithful to the idea that originated it and responds to the desire to contribute in a concrete way to increasing and spreading a positive vision in favor of wine and conscious consumption of a product closely connected with its territory.

“Drinking the Territory” to attribute added value to each quality wine and appreciate, through the glass, not only the product itself, but also the culture and environment it contains.

The theme of the competition has been linked for some years in a more direct way to the idea that has inspired the Go Wine association since its foundation: that is, looking at a qualified consumer figure who not only loves knowing and tasting wines, but feels the desire to become a traveler to discover the places where each wine establishes itself and where men and women of wine work.

However, the underlying spirit that animates the cultural initiative remains unchanged: history, traditions, landscape and cultural events are various factors that distinguish wine from any other drink and which are enhanced when traveling through a wine territory.

The themes of research and sustainability are accompanied by two special prizes in the general section of the competition.

The research topic is aimed at students of different age groups, looking at degree courses in Oenology and Viticulture.

The attention goes in favor of research on the topic of native vines: a topic dear to Go Wine and disseminated in various initiatives. The competition will reward the two best research works, enhancing the skills that emerge.

A second special prize is proposed again after the debut of the last edition: it is aimed at companies in the wine sector and wineries in particular; dedicates specific attention to the actions carried out to safeguard the theme of the landscape and the environment, favoring fair and green development models, as stated in the art. 8 of the Notice.

The theme of the story inspires the general section of the Competition: the Announcement is linked to one of the themes connected to the identity of the Go Wine Association and invites participants to ideally become travellers, narrating a journey in an Italian wine territory, telling a experience, from which emerges the role that viticulture has played or could play in the conservation of the environment, the rural landscape, local culture and traditions.

The general section of the National “Drinking Territory” Competition is divided into two categories – one reserved for over 24s without distinction and one reserved for young people aged 16 to 24 – with the aim of establishing an ideal comparison between generations.

The entries will be subjected to scrutiny by the jury composed of Gianluigi Beccaria and Valter Boggione (University of Turin), Margherita Oggero (writer), Bruno Quaranta (La Repubblica), Massimo Corrado (Go Wine Association).

The two best texts will then be selected from the general section, one for each category: the winners will each receive a prize of €500.00.

The two best research works will be selected from the special section reserved for Degree courses in Oenology and Viticulture: the winners (or groups) of the special section will each receive a prize of 500.00 euros.

In addition to the prizes reserved for aspiring writers and the theme of the environment and sustainability, Drinking the Territory confirms two other prizes: the recognition of "Il Maestro" and the Special Prize for a book , published during the years 2023- 2024, which has wine as its theme or which, in any case, reserves special attention to wine.

The Drinking the territory literary competition is supported by a parterre of Italian wineries who, members of the association, support the cultural projects of Go Wine.
