A selection of excellent labels will be the protagonists of the Meininger Award evening, the exclusive overture that will kick off the most anticipated three days in Düsseldorf.
Calabrian wines return to the stage of Prowein, one of the most influential international wine events that, for over thirty years, has made Düsseldorf the capital of wine and spirits, as well as an unmissable destination for the most important players in the sector with over 4,000 exhibitors and approximately 12,000 labels present.
It is in this exceptional scenario that the wines of Calabria, on the initiative of the Region and with the commitment of Arsac, are preparing to present themselves to operators, communicators and professionals of the sector during the tastings at the tasting tables, from Sunday 16 to Tuesday 18 March, at the Düsseldorf Fair.
“Germany - underlines Gianluca Gallo, Councilor for Agriculture of the Calabria Region - is a strategic market for our wine system, as demonstrated by the increase in exports by Calabrian companies and the start of important commercial relations with the German trade. However, to consolidate our competitiveness it is necessary to be active on the promotion front”. Councilor Gallo adds: “Our participation in Prowein, one of the most important events in the wine sector at an international level, is going precisely in this direction. We will not limit ourselves to bringing our companies to the regional stand but we have organized a series of initiatives that will involve journalists of the sector, chefs and important buyers: first of all, the initial dinner where Calabrian wines will be the protagonists of the wine pairing. All aimed at strengthening the presence of our wines in Germany, also thanks to the strong Italian and Calabrian community that resides there”.
In this edition, in fact, the Calabria Region will have a leading role as the main sponsor of the Meininger award – Excellence in Wine & Spirit, the award established in 2006, dedicated to the most influential personalities in the wine and spirits sector. The ceremony, scheduled for Saturday 15 March, will see the participation of a parterre of exceptional guests, from the great wine maisons to distributors, sommeliers and internationally renowned journalists. In particular, it is during this exclusive dinner that Calabrian wines will be in the front row: the evening's menu will in fact be accompanied by a selection of the best labels, spokesmen for all the expressions of the region's wine production. A unique opportunity to tell the story and evolution of wines made in Calabria to an international audience, consolidating this region as one of the most interesting and promising realities in the Italian and Mediterranean wine scene.
A full-scale excursus into Calabrian winemaking that will continue on Sunday 16th at 4:00 p.m. with the masterclass by WEINWIRTSCHAFT, one of Germany's longest-running trade magazines. The event will focus on the story, by editor Miriam Müller, of the region's diverse winemaking souls, from the coastal vineyards to the hinterland, in order to enhance the variety of territories and native vines that define the multifaceted character of Calabrian wines.
The two-day event of the flagship wines of Calabria will also see the alternation of representatives of the German trade press to taste and deepen their knowledge of this “Extraordinary Calabria”. Also of great importance is the appointment with the Italian Chefs Association in Germany organized thanks to the collaboration of Concetta Ragusa, president of the Association, with the aim of enhancing the pairing of excellent Calabrian wines, typical products and traditional recipes of German cuisine.
