Vinitaly 2026: Vitematta wins the Angelo Betti Award for Campania.

Serluca: "An example that combines social commitment and the recovery of traditions."

At the 58th edition of Vinitaly 2026, currently underway at Veronafiere, the Angelo Betti Award – Benemeriti della Vitivinicoltura (Benefits of Viticulture) was awarded to Vitematta of Casal di Principe, in the province of Caserta.

The award was presented by Councilor for Agriculture Maria Carmela Serluca, who outlined the reasons behind the choice: "We wanted to recognize the Vitematta company for the extraordinary value of its project, which combines territorial rebirth, social integration, and production quality. Vitematta represents a concrete example of redemption: on land confiscated from organized crime, a virtuous experience has been built, capable of restoring dignity to the land and its people. Through the cultivation of Asprinio, a courageous and distinctive grape variety in itself, the company demonstrates how excellence can be born even in the most difficult places. But above all, it is its social commitment that makes Vitematta a worthy example: the inclusion of vulnerable people in the workforce demonstrates a vision of agriculture as a tool for care, integration, and development."

The cooperative, led by Vincenzo Letizia, has been operating in Casal di Principe for over twenty years, restoring and preserving the ancient vines of the Asprinio di Aversa area. It also promotes inclusive agriculture, offering employment opportunities to young immigrants and people with mental health issues, demonstrating how the winemaking industry can also be a tool for integration and social cohesion.

The Angelo Betti Award for Merit in Viticulture, established in 1973 and named after Vinitaly's founder since 2016, is presented annually on the opening day of the event to individuals, companies, or institutions that have distinguished themselves for their contribution to the qualitative development of viticulture and oenology in their regions, upon nomination by the Agriculture Departments of Italy's regions.
