More biodiversity for a better wine

The study, which began in September 2013, has as its object the analysis of the "bioindicators of biodiversity" related to 12 vineyards in the Berici and Euganean Hills with the aim to recognize, improve and ensure the quality of wine and the surrounding environment. These assumptions are not required only by producers, but the consumers in themselves are increasingly aware of the compatibility of quality/price of wine and production environment, favouring the companies that safeguard the biodiversity of its territory.

This study intends to become a real instrument for proposing a new way of vineyard management, classifying the various terroirs of the vineyards in the Berici and Euganean Hills and through qualitative and quantitative analysis of the most appropriate biomarkers, from bacteria and microfungi, to invertebrates that provide important environmental services.

Researchers of VeneTerroir ensure that the intensification of wine production does not necessarily lead to a deterioration of the environment but it can pose a serious risk.

Sustainable agriculture can be a solution, and organic farming, in various forms, can improve the environmental impact if carried out with skill and intelligence and avails itself of modern and innovative research.

All results will be exhibited by the researchers in themselves at the conference scheduled for Friday, 19th June, starting at 7:40 p.m., at the seat of the Euganean Hills Wines Consortium, Piazzetta Martiri 10 Vo’ (PD).

Here is the program of the evening:
