SOSTAIN AT VINITALY 2025 WITH THE CONFERENCE "SUSTAINABILITY: THE ISLAND THAT EXISTS"

During the meeting we will discuss the results achieved and the new initiatives already in the pipeline with the partners OI, Plasticfree, Amorim Cork Italia and Federazione Apicoltori Italiani.

“Sustainability: the island that exists” is the title of the meeting with which SOStain Sicilia , the union of Sicilian wineries committed to experimenting with production models to protect the environment, biodiversity and society, returns to the forefront this year at Vinitaly , the prestigious wine fair scheduled in Verona from 6 to 9 April (57th edition). The debate will take place on Tuesday 8 April from 3:15 to 4:00 pm in the institutional area of the Sicilian Region, inside the Sicily Pavilion . During the conference, the SOStain Sicilia Foundation, which currently has 44 associated wineries, will review the results achieved both in terms of certifications , i.e. producers who have adopted the SOStain sustainability protocol, and in terms of international credibility , thanks to its inclusion, with an excellent rating, in the Intertek comparative study on sustainability standards in the world, promoted by the Scandinavian monopolies. The new initiatives already underway will also be presented with the aim of making sustainability performance even higher. Among these, phase 2 of the “ 100% Sicilia Bottle ” project for a further lightening of the glass container produced by OI for SOStain, and the project in collaboration with the Italian Beekeepers Federation for the “Repopulation of the Sicilian Black Bee ”, which will be developed in the estates of certified wineries, considered ideal environments for the protection of a fundamental species for the ecosystem. The cork recycling project in partnership with Amorim Cork Italia and the awareness-raising activities to combat plastic pollution carried out with Plasticfree ODV will also be discussed. Speakers will include Giuseppe Bursi , vice-president of the SOStain Sicilia Foundation, Antonio Rallo, president of the Consortium for the Protection of Sicilian DOC Wines, Lucrezia Lamastra, coordinator of the SOStain technical-scientific committee, Raffaele Cirone , president of the Italian Beekeepers Federation, Carlos Manuel Veloso dos Santos , CEO of Amorim Cork Italia, and Ernesto Ghigna , European wine marketing manager of OI. The conference will be moderated by the journalist from Cook-Corriere della Sera, Alessandra Dal Monte .
