"Serre di Tuffo": the new Bava wine is previewed at Vinitaly 2023

AT THE ORIGINS OF NEBBIOLO DEL MONFERRATO: "SERRE DI TUFFO" IS BORN, FROM THE HISTORIC VINEYARDS BAVA Previews at Vinitaly, pavilion 10 stand Q3

It is previewed at Vinitaly in Verona on the Bava stand in pavilion 10 - Q3 from 2 to 5 April 2023 Serre di Tuffo, Monferrato DOC Nebbiolo Superiore .

A new wine that is actually a powerful and evocative return to the origins. A Nebbiolo from Monferrato, just like the one that the Bava family has historically produced in the vineyards of Tuffo, a small village of Cocconato, in the Asti area, where it has resided since 1616.

In the story of Piero, the “patriarch” of the Bavas, wine, territory and family are intertwined: “ Once - recalls Piero Bava - almost everyone in Tuffo had a piece of land; a part was cultivated with vines, and it was the upper part of the hills. Already in the eighteenth century, the Bava family owned land on the bricchi delle Serre, a panoramic point of the hamlet from which you can clearly see the Alps and Monviso, on the ridge of the ancient Strada delle Serre. At the beginning of the 20th century, the family moved to the valley floor, next to the railway, where the cellar was founded which is still the headquarters of the company today, after a century ".

From the windows of the cellar you can see, in full light on the opposite hill, the historic vineyard next to the church of the village, in the same position described by a rare cadastral map of 1790 (among the few completed during the Savoy reign) which bears the same toponym, Cadodo, already indicated then as owned by the family.

The recognition of the DOC Monferrato for this Nebbiolo seals this long historical presence and recognizes the vocation of the Cocconato hills for the production of Nebbiolo, which sees the best exposures in Cadodo and on the bricchi delle Serre.

Serre di Tuffo Bava comes out with the 2020 vintage: ten months of aging in wooden barrels that make the wine deserve the "Superiore" appellation.

It adds to the production of the Cocconato cellar, known for its Barberas - from the Stradivario, the Bava's signature wine, to the Pianoalto Nizza and Libera -, and for the Barolo and Nebbiolo from the farmhouse in the Scarrone cru, Castiglione Falletto, in the Langa.

From the traits of Nebbiolo del Monferrato, in Serre di Tuffo we find the brilliant ruby color, the floral and spicy olfactory profile, the typical but round tannin which ensures the wine longevity. From this historic vineyard, whose white calcareous and rough soil covers the outcropping marls, the wine brings character, the exaltation of the fragrance and freshness, combining elegance and structure and proudly demonstrating the traditional vocation of Cocconato for this grape .
