Parma Malvasia Expo

3 days of tastings and reflections on Malvasia.

On 5th, 6th and 7th June Piazza Garibaldi will host "Parma Malvasia Expo – Tales of Malvasia from the World", a wine event that will give you the opportunity to know and appreciate in a better way over 100 labels of Malvasia of Italian and foreign producers, organized by the Delegation of Parma of the Italian Sommelier Association (AIS), with the sponsorship of the Municipality of Parma, the Emilia Romagna Region and Expo.

The event, created in the spirit of promoting and enhancing the production and dissemination of quality wine, aims to create a perfect match between the different nuances and interpretations of the vines with Malvasia designation spread across the Mediterranean Sea.

To talk about it, this morning, during a press conference: the commissioner for trade and tourism Cristiano Casa; Claudio Piazza, Chairman of the Parma Delegation of AIS – Italian Sommelier Association – Emilia; Marisa Uras, project development of the Parma Ais Emilia delegation.

«The Municipality has joined with enthusiasm to this initiative – the Assessor to Tourism Cristiano Casa said – providing the support and the co–organization in the awareness that it is first of all a moment aimed to value the products of our territory, comparing them with other excellences nationally and internationally. It is an event that promotes both products and producers and which I hope will be repeated next year».

«It is an event – Claudio Piazza explained – which focuses on the world of wine trying to involve local and international producers. We start from Malvasia, our typical wine, with a view to also bring benefits to our territory.

It is realized, in this way, an idea which was conceived some time ago that has seen a positive response of the Italian and foreign wineries. For us it is a great satisfaction, as we managed to involve several schools in the area, from the Hotel Institute to Liceo Marconi, but also the Ipsia school».

Marisa Uras has focused on the fact that the event is an opportunity for dialogue in which «everyone brings his/her own experiences and the many ways of producing Malvasia, understood as a cultural phenomenon that involves schools».

The event will be open, at 4:00 p.m. of Friday, 5th June, with the conference "Malvasia, Reflections and Perspectives", which will be held in Palazzo del Governatore and will be attended by some of the leading Malvasia experts in the world academic landscape and by some historical producers of Malvasia, together with local and regional authorities: the Mayor Federico Pizzarotti, the Assessor for Productive Activities, Trade and Tourism Cristiano Casa, the regional councillor Massimo Iotti and the leaders of the organizing association, the Chairwoman of the Emilia section Annalisa Barison and the Ais provincial delegate Claudio Piazza.

During the three days, on Friday 5th and Saturday 6h from 6:00 p.m. to 00:00 and on Sunday 7th from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., in Piazza Garibaldi, there will be tasting tables of wines from over 40 wineries from all parts of the Mediterranean Sea where Malvasia is made, you can make guided wine tastings by the sommeliers of AIS in some dedicated islands and there will be some food points with the most representative products of our territory.
