Mandrarossa , a niche company of Cantine Settesoli dedicated to the on-trad market, strengthens its role as an interpreter of Sicilian viticulture by focusing on research and experimentation , thanks to the study of microterroir and the interaction between variety and environment, with the aim of enhancing the most identifying expressions of the island's vines. The new products presented at Vinitaly 2026 fit into this direction: four new labels – Lalbìra Salaparuta Doc , Catarratto Brut , Cantacorvo Perricone and Nerello Mascalese Rosato, all three Terre Siciliane IGT – which reflect the brand's work on native vines starting from Catarratto , the protagonist of an experiment that explores its versatility and potential also in the Salaparuta DOC , up to the recovery of varieties such as Perricone and a new interpretation of Nerello Mascalese in a rosé version.
A full expression of Sicilian biodiversity, since its inception Mandrarossa has promoted research and knowledge on native vines, as demonstrated by its participation in the VISTA ( Innovative and Sustainable Valorization of the Terroirs of Native Varieties ) Lucido project, which aims to increase sustainable high-quality production through the valorization of local grapes, with particular attention to those most widespread in Sicily, such as the Catarratto Lucido cultivar.
Aware of its role as ambassador for the region, Mandrarossa is further investing in the Menfi DOC and, in addition to Urra di Mare , is also claiming the new vintages of Cartagho , Bertolino Soprano , Cavadiserpe , Terre del Sommacco , and Bonera under the Menfi denomination. The goal is to relaunch and enhance the denomination by focusing on its strong territorial and winemaking identity.
"I'm convinced that Catarratto will capture ever greater public attention," says Giuseppe Bursi , President of Mandrarossa and Cantine Settesoli. "In the Salaparuta DOC, where Lalbìra is born and where the varying altitudes and soils play a key role, the grape expresses itself with great elegance, making this its strong point. This wine, born thanks to the valuable collaboration with Cantina Madonna del Piraino, will have much to offer in the future. We have also included Perricone in the range, a still little-known variety with great potential, carefully selecting its ideal terroir. The fundamental mission of Mandrarossa and Cantine Settesoli remains the promotion of native grape varieties and the denominations in which they operate, as in the case of Salaparuta and Menfi DOC, in which we strongly believe."
Lalbìra Salaparuta DOC 2025 is produced exclusively with Catarratto grapes from the hills of Salaparuta. The name recalls the true story of the young noblewoman Madonna Albìra who, after receiving the ancient Roman farmhouse as a dowry, looked out from the high tower every day to admire the vastness of her vineyards and the beauty of the Salaparuta area. The label, illustrated by Nancy Rossit, is a tribute to this Rediscovered History , of which Lalbìra is part of the line along with the Contrada Wines , the Etna Wines , and the Passito di Pantelleria. The aroma is intense with notes of orange blossom, jasmine, and citrus. On the palate, it is fresh, savory, and fragrant, with a perfect harmony of fruit and minerality.
Catarratto Brut Terre Siciliane IGT is part of Mandrarossa's sparkling line. In the glass, it is pale yellow with greenish reflections and a fine, persistent perlage. The aroma is bold and fresh, with hints of orange blossom and jasmine. On the palate, it is dry, vibrant, and lively, with a perlage distinguished by a pronounced acidity and savory character.
The Innovativi line also includes Cantacorvo Terre Siciliane IGT , made from 100% Perricone grapes. The name pays homage to a district in Menfi. A deep red in color with purple highlights, the enveloping nose evokes red and black fruit, while on the palate it presents a good structure with firm, well-integrated tannins.
Among the varietals, the new release is Nerello Mascalese Rosato Terre Siciliane IGT : a fresh, light, and delicate rosé with slightly coppery highlights that recall the grape variety's typical elegance. The aromatic profile is fine and vertical, with aromas of wild strawberries, pomegranate, rose hips, and crisp cherry. On the palate, it is lean and taut, with good acidity that lends energy and drinkability.
The new Mandrarossa wines will be available starting April 2026 in wine shops, restaurants, and the company's online shop.
