Festival of Food Resistance

  • 18/06/2014

Two days of resistant Market, Art, Music and Debates against the agri–food multinational corporations for the quality of food and life

The Festival of food resistance is an event that is proposed as a time for reflection, debate and exchange on the major issues of the different farming systems, of the environmental and social sustainability in agriculture and of food sovereignty. It is increasingly clear, the worldwide trend to the concentration and the significant control of agricultural systems by a few multinational companies that are able to influence, by means of an endless availability of funds, legislators and rulers. This happens in every strategic sector of the survival of humanity.

In particular, we are all threatened (producers and consumers) by an agri–business centered on the unsustainable use of resources, on the standardization of crops, on the oligopolistic control of seeds, on the hypertrophy of the processing industry, on large–scale distribution, on the worsening of working conditions for producers and of food quality.

But the food issue, as that of water, is so important to make resistance (and alternative) to ongoing processes an irrevocable imperative everywhere.

The festival has the objective to become a moment and situation where to give dignity and visibility to this resistance, where to cross experiences while studying and promoting alternatives, proposals, mobilizations.

These themes will be developed in the course of a meeting and a roundtable distributed on the two days of the Festival.

During the event, the municipal campsite (ten hectares in the forest) will host a large outdoor market where producers and self–producers of organic, biodynamic products and all those who work in the field of local food and wine will exhibit their products and exchange knowledge, techniques and opinions.

Workshops of cheese making and bread baking will be offered by the "Sottosopra" social farm and by "For Social" in Tramonti di Sotto, in a program open to anyone who has knowledge to share.

In the course of the Festival, a symposium of writers and muralists will be organized, who will be invited to develop the theme of food resistance and on the power of resistance in general (for the occasion, walls and panels will be made available throughout the town).
