Conference: Vin Santo in Gambellara

On 25th November a conference in Gambellara to present the results of a ten–year work of research. At the start the "Sapore di Vin Santo" promotional tour.

They will be presented Monday, 25 November, at 8:30 p.m., in the Theatre Hall of Gambellara, the results of almost 10 years of experimentation on Vin Santo, the pride of the Gambellara DOC designation.

Sandra Torriani, Professor of Agricultural Microbiology at the Department of Biotechnology of the University of Verona, will present the research activities carried out with a presentation entitled "Use of local yeasts for a unique wine". This is the fulfillment of a journey that had seen the same Torriani announce three years ago the discovery of a local yeast exclusive of the territory of the designation, the Zygosaccharomyces Gambellarensis which revealed the secret of a wine that you can really define unique.

Nicola Menti, then, producer of Montebello Vicentino and soul of the "Sapore di Vin Santo" competition, will illustrate the promotional tour scheduled for next year: 10 stages that will touch all provinces of Veneto in early 2014. The appointments, organized in collaboration with the associations of tasters and sommeliers, will be an opportunity for the public to taste the Vin Santo of Gambellara in the versions on the market accompanied by the microvinifications of the experimentation. "The intent – Menti declares – is to promote the area of Gambellara and our Vin Santo, but also to raise funds to allow us to continue trials", The "Sapore di Vin Santo" committee is composed not only by Menti, but also by three other young producers: Luca Framarin, Michele Zonin and Vincenzo Vignato.

In conclusion, the agronomist Silvano Locardi will talk about the importance of vegetative balance of the vineyard to produce quality grapes. The conference will be introduced and moderated by the Chairman of the Gambellara DOC Consortium Giuseppe Zonin.

The event is funded by the Rural Development of the Veneto Region, Misura 133, in the project to develop the Gambellara DOC wines.
