  • 26/05/2026

The international competition dedicated to heroic viticulture will be held on August 25th and 26th in Châtillon, Aosta Valley. Sample submissions will be open from June 1st to August 12th.

Registration is now open for the 34th Mondial des Vins Extrêmes , the international wine competition promoted by CERVIM – Center for Research, Studies, Safeguarding, Coordination and Promotion of Mountain Viticulture and reserved for wines produced in mountainous regions, steep slopes, terraced systems, and small islands . Producers can register online by Friday, August 7, 2026, while samples can be submitted from Monday, June 1, to Wednesday, August 12. With over 1,000 labels submitted by 372 wineries from 17 countries in the latest edition, the Mondial des Vins Extrêmes confirms its position as one of the leading events dedicated to heroic viticulture . Tastings will take place on Tuesday, August 25, and Wednesday, August 26 , at the Châtillon conference center in the Aosta Valley, confirming the connection between the competition and the region where CERVIM is based. The international juries, composed of oenologists, journalists, and industry experts, will evaluate the wines according to the OIV (Organisation Internationale de la Vigne et du Vin) criteria, considering color, olfactory profile, and taste. The scoring system will award Silver Medals (85 to 88.99 points), Gold Medals (89 to 92.99 points), and Grand Gold Medals (93 to 100 points). The competition includes several special prizes , designed to highlight the diversity of the territories and figures that inspire heroic viticulture: from the best overall wine to organic and/or biodynamic wines, from the best wine produced on small islands to awards for young winemakers, female producers, ungrafted vineyards, and particularly represented wine-growing areas. "With the opening of registrations, we are entering the heart of an edition that confirms the Mondial des Vins Extrêmes as a concrete tool for promoting producers operating in challenging environmental conditions," says Nicola Abbrescia , President of CERVIM. "Each sample tells the story of a territory, a landscape, and a viticulture model that requires expertise, manual labor, and continuity . Our competition was created precisely to recognize this heritage and bring it to the attention of professionals, the press, and enthusiasts internationally." The awards ceremony will be held on November 21 , 2026, at the VINSEUM – Museum of Wine Cultures of Catalonia in Vilafranca del Penedès (Spain) , a leading museum for wine culture, chosen to strengthen the competition's international dimension and foster dialogue between territories dedicated to heroic viticulture. The Gran Medaglie d'Oro will also be available for tasting in a dedicated room at the Merano WineFestival , the event conceived by Helmuth Köcher, scheduled to take place in the South Tyrolean city from 6 to 10 November 2026. All useful information – regulations, entry procedures and technical instructions – are available on the competition website .
