The LoST EU Project reaches its final stop in Germany.

LOST EU'S SMALL DOP CHEESES WILL BE THE STARS AT CHEESE BERLIN ON SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 9TH. A MASTERCLASS AND WALK-AROUND TASTING WILL BE PLANNED THAT SAME DAY AT THE AEDES CAFE IN BERLIN. Meanwhile, TASTING DAYS CONTINUE AT THE MUNICH AND BERLIN STORES, AS WELL AS RESTAURANT WEEKS AT THE CAPITAL'S MOST RENOWNED RESTAURANTS.

The Lost EU project has reached its final stop in Germany. Over the past three years, it has consolidated a network of restaurants, supermarkets, importers , as well as journalists and opinion leaders interested in bringing the crucial messages of sustainability , respect for the environment, and human and animal welfare, central to the small, iconic PDO dairies of Italian regional traditions, to the German market.

A three-year journey that has allowed the Lost EU PDO cheeses to be introduced in Germany and Sweden, the project's target countries, to products that until now had been completely unknown to local consumers. This is due precisely to the difficulties associated with importing them and the power of industry and large-scale retail trade, which render these high-quality PDO cheeses of little commercial interest. It was precisely through direct contact with Italian restaurateurs operating in Germany and Sweden, with small supermarkets dedicated to Italian specialties, and with local opinion leaders that the Lost EU PDO cheeses found their niche of interest and distribution. This has allowed the creation of consolidated relationships with many operators who now regularly order the small PDOs from the product basket.

The new activities in Germany, planned for November 2025 , will in fact include numerous promotional events at Berlin restaurants that are now stable partners of the project, with the organisation of real Cheese Weeks, which will allow regular customers of these businesses to enjoy a special aperitif based on Lost EU cheeses: among these the restaurant Enoteca Angolino, the Bertolini Feinkost , but also the restaurants Partenope , Facciola and la Muntagnola which for the month of November will organise special tastings and will put Lost EU cheeses on their menus.

The Lost EU tour will begin on Friday 7th and Saturday 8th November at Berlin's ancient covered market, the Markthalle , with in-store promotions that will allow thousands of German consumers to taste the products in the basket, in educational tastings led by the producers themselves.

Cheese Berlin will begin on Sunday 9 November , the leading fair for cheese enthusiasts in Germany, which brings together around five thousand cheese lovers from all over the country every year: a one-of-a-kind event in Germany, which allows the citizens of Berlin and beyond to try products that are not normally available in traditional distribution.

Also on Sunday at 12:00 p.m. , a masterclass for food and wine journalists and Berlin restaurant professionals will take place at the Caffè Aedes event space in Berlin . This will be followed by a presentation in Germany of the new Lost EU recipe book , the result of research that involved the consortia in finding recipes featuring the various cheeses in the basket.

The presentation of the recipe book to the German audience of journalists, restaurateurs, and distributors will be crucial to highlighting the culinary versatility of the project's eight PDOs and their identity-defining importance in Italy's various regional cuisines. To this end, a special walk-around tasting will follow the masterclass, not only allowing professionals and operators in the capital to sample Lost EU PDO cheeses, but also involving some of the capital's gourmet pizza chefs , who will highlight the properties of the PDOs in the dish that symbolizes Italianness throughout the world. We will sample the famous Pizza alla Nerano , featuring Provolone del Monaco, with creamed zucchini and fresh basil, as well as Pizza Valser , with Ossolano PDO and pancetta, and Pizza Ladina with Puzzone di Moena PDO and Speck delle Dolomiti, to name just a few.

The events will continue the following day with the Tasting Days at the premises of one of Europe's leading cheese importers, the Mammafiore Group, which is present in over 20 countries. Meanwhile, the Restaurant Weeks will continue in the capital, before moving to Munich , where the Tasting Days will continue at the stores of a long-standing partner of the project, Superissimo , with its two stores organizing tasting days for their customers.

Although November will be the final official event of the Project, the relationships consolidated over three years of activity with many key operators in the German market will allow the continuation of activities into 2026 with further dates to be defined.

LoST EU is a project supported by the European Union focused on sustainability and the promotion of small-scale dairy denominations. Its goal is to develop a communications and events plan aimed at promoting some of Italy's outstanding dairy products, which today represent one of the many treasures of Italy's gastronomic heritage, as well as an example of sustainability.
