Monte Veronese DOP wins in Caseus Veneti

The Monte Veronese team took home four medals out of six from the province of Verona

The competition of the 17th edition of Caseus Veneti , dedicated to the dairy products of the Veneto Region , ended again this year with important awards for the Monte Veronese DOP , which brings home four medals out of six from the province of Verona . On Saturday 25 September at Villa Contarini in Piazzola sul Brenta, in the Padua area, the Monte Veronese team won the victory in 4 categories, obtaining the prizes awarded by the expert jury: gold medal at Monte Veronese DOP with whole milk (25 / 45 days) of the Gugole Dario Artisan Dairy of Gugole Antonella, gold medal at the Monte Veronese DOP of breeding (6 months) of La Casara Roncolato Romano , which also won the first prize for Goat Cheese - Coag. Presamica - Pasta Semidura , gold medal also at the Monte Veronese DOP of breeding (over 12 months) of the Menegazzi dairy . Monte Veronese was also awarded a third place in the “First Caseus Veneti sandwich contest”, which this year came to life with the aim of enhancing the DOP cheeses in sandwiches. The medal was won by Alberto Dalla Libera, the Italian sandwich champion, with the Ma Dalla Lì sandwich, filled with Monte Veronese DOP. The categories in competition of this edition were 49 including DOP and typical cheeses, goat, fresh, very fresh, refined, for a total of 406 cheeses in the competition. "Tradition and dairy excellence are the key words of the success which is confirmed again this year - comments Alfonso Albi , President of the Monte Veronese DOP Consortium - It was a beautiful edition and we are proud that the work and passion behind Monte Veronese are also recognized in the competition results. Our dairies are eight and they are all family-run: with their cheeses they represent the art of processing and raw material, a mirror of our territory of Lessinia, a heritage that we want to enhance and tell everyone ". The event featured eight denominations and was promoted by the Consortia for the Protection of PDO cheeses from Veneto: Asiago, Casatella Trevigiana, Grana Padano, Montasio, Monte Veronese DOP, Mozzarella TSG, Piave and Provolone Valpadana, with the support of A.Pro .La.V (Veneto Milk Producers Association). Many declinations of the best regional cheeses, which have seen dozens of events for young and old also on Sunday, including the cooking show conducted by the sommelier Adua Villa and the journalist Marco Colognese, which featured seven Veneto DOP cheeses and seven chefs, who have interpreted them in their recipes. Monte Veronese was the ingredient in the dish of chef Davide Di Rocco of Di Rocco Bistrot - Cà Matta in Noale (Venice), who created the first, the after and the fifth quarter . It is a dish that develops in three moments: the first is the desire to feel the taste of the essence of the cheese, which here has been combined with a beef tartare; the second is the transformation of the cheese, which was presented as a fondue to accompany paccheri with tuna sauce and black truffle; the third is the use of the less noble part, the fifth quarter of the cheese, or the rind, used to make a broth for a vegetarian dish. A presentation that was very interesting to understand the different variations of the cheese and the versatility of tastes, flavors and textures of the same. The dish was paired with an Asolo Prosecco-based cocktail, created for the occasion by the well-known bartender Simone Ambrosi, owner of the Cloakroom Cocktail Lab in Treviso. A great success also for the guided cheese tastings, where Monte Veronese together with Montasio was the protagonist of the meeting A mountain of cheese .
