The participation of the Councillor of the Tuscany Region, Leonardo Marras, is expected.
Nutrition as a responsible choice, favoring simple, seasonal ingredients; but also understanding the origins of raw materials, supporting local farms, reducing waste, and enhancing biodiversity. These principles find expression in a dietary model that supports sustainable, natural agriculture, and which today becomes a culture to be preserved, transmitted, and promoted. This will be the focus of the 35th edition of "La Cucina Povera," an event promoted by the Pro Loco Association and the Municipality of Castellina Marittima in collaboration with Castello del Terriccio and Slow Food Costa degli Etruschi.
The event will take place on Saturday, July 25th at Castello del Terriccio and its Terraforte restaurant . It will include a round table discussion, open to the public (free admission), on the topics of food quality, agricultural landscape protection, and the cultural value of local produce, followed by a tasting dinner.
Vittorio Piozzo di Rosignano , head of the Castello del Terriccio farm, states: " Traditional cuisine reminds us that quality comes from respecting the land and its rhythms. It is a culture founded on seasonality, biodiversity, the work of farmers, and the ability to enhance each ingredient without waste. These are the same principles that inspire the work of Castello del Terriccio every day, from agricultural production to the Terraforte kitchen. Reviving this heritage doesn't mean celebrating the past, but rediscovering a more conscious, authentic vision of food, deeply rooted in the local area ."
Details - The event will open at 6:00 PM with the debate " From the ear of corn to the table: quality, taste, well-being. But is it all our own doing ?", moderated by food and wine journalist Leonardo Romanelli. Speakers will include: Vittorio Piozzo di Rosignano , owner of Castello del Terriccio; Alessandro Giari , mayor of Castellina Marittima; Leonardo Marras, Tuscany Regional Councilor for Economy, Tourism, and Agriculture; Cristiano Tomei, television personality and executive chef of the Terraforte restaurant at Castello del Terriccio; Andrea Marescotti , teacher and representative of Slow Food Tuscany; Daniele Campochiari of Molino Le Pietre; Carlo Passera , editor-in-chief of the newspaper Identità Golose; and gastronome Lido Vannucchi . The debate is open to the public.
At 8:30 pm, a tasting dinner will follow, featuring traditional Tuscan dishes, created and interpreted by Michelin-starred chef Cristiano Tomei , respecting local gastronomic culture and local ingredients. The dinner will be paired with Castello del Terriccio's iconic wines, especially Tassinaia and Lupicaia . Information about Castello del Terriccio
Nestled among holm oak hills, Mediterranean scrub, and vineyards gently sloping down to the sea, in Castellina Marittima (an hour from Pisa and about 15 minutes from the nearest beach), Castello del Terriccio evokes a corner of Tuscany where nature, history, and wine blend in perfect harmony. Perched on a hilltop, the estate dominates an enchanting landscape scented with wild herbs and sea breezes, where on clear days the Tuscan archipelago looms on the horizon. Today, the estate produces wines of extraordinary quality—including the celebrated Lupicaia (produced since 1993), powerful and elegant after over 22 months of aging in barrels—along with important wines such as Tassinaia (produced since 1992), Castello del Terriccio , and the more recent Gian Annibale . At the helm of the estate is Vittorio Piozzo di Rosignano , whose family has looked after Castello del Terriccio for over a century. Under his vision, the estate has established itself as a benchmark for Tuscan excellence, where heritage, landscape, and viticulture are preserved with extraordinary care. www.terriccio.it
