VINARIUS, ASSOCIATION OF ITALIAN WINE SHOPS, INTERCEPTS THE CONSUMPTION TRENDS FOR SUMMER 2024

Among the most evident trends observed and consolidated by Italian wine merchants, as recorded by Vinarius, the Association of Italian Wine Shops - which represents over 120 members throughout the national territory - are a good performance of the sparkling wine and white wine market, and, compared to the past, a slight revival of rosé wines , naturally the freshest and lightest ones. “ Classic rosés are most in demand - states Andrea Terraneo , President of Vinarius - therefore rosé wines from Salento and Chiaretto rosé wines as well as some references from abroad, especially from France. But above all, summer rosés are confirmed as the most sought after, i.e. those to drink that are a little fresher, lighter, with a low or lower alcohol content than usual ”. Moreover, the tendency for consumers to look for wines with lower alcohol levels is now clear: " as if in a certain sense they were also looking for sustainability in wine ", explains Terraneo. In any case, although in this hot period low alcohol levels are preferred, at the moment there are no particular trends linked to the demand for dealcoholised wine from wine sellers. A significant trend is that of interest in red wines that can withstand cooling without becoming distorted: " more delicate wines such as the Schiave or Lago di Caldaro red wines from South Tyrol or the Ottavianello from Brindisi are in great demand. – continues Andrea Terraneo - In this sense, the help of the wine dealer is fundamental, as he advises the customer on serving temperatures: while classic red wines are always recommended at 18-20 degrees, summer red wines can also be served slightly below 18 degrees. Thanks to the help of the refrigerator we can avoid drinking red wines at room temperature, which at this moment would coincide with 30 degrees and above. Naturally in this case, the icebox to maintain the temperature once out of the fridge is a must ."
