UMBRIA WINE TOURISM MOVEMENT | OPEN CELLARS 2026

  • 22/05/2026

A weekend in the green heart of Italy with many wine tourism options, tastings, lunches and dinners "with the winemaker", workshops for children and DJ sets on Saturday 30th and Sunday 31st May.

Tastings, guided tours, food events, picnics in the vineyard, lunches and dinners "with the winemaker," e-bike tours to discover the Umbrian hills, and initiatives aimed at families, creating a program that extends across the region. With the participation of more than 40 member wineries, Saturday, May 30th and Sunday, May 31st, 2026, marks the year's most anticipated wine tourism event— Cantine Aperte (Open Cellars )—organized by the Umbria Wine Tourism Movement , now in its 34th year. Once again, Umbrian wineries will open their doors to wine tourists, with a unique and diverse program designed to showcase not only wine but also traditional Umbrian products. The calendar extends from Montefalco to Torgiano, from Orvieto to the Perugia area, all the way to Assisi and Bevagna, Umbertide, and Lake Trasimeno, providing a representative overview of Umbria's winemaking landscape and the various hospitality options offered by the wineries.

" Open Cellars is a key event for the Umbria Wine Tourism Movement because it allows companies to open up to the public and share their work in a direct and transparent way, " emphasizes Giovanni Dubini , President of the Umbria Wine Tourism Movement. " This year too, the participation of wineries is large and demonstrates the shared desire to invest in hospitality and consumer relations. The collaboration with Screen Italia also reinforces the message of responsible consumption, providing tools to raise awareness among visitors about a responsible approach to wine consumption, as an integral part of the way we promote wine ."

Evidence of this focus on social responsibility and raising awareness on important issues is Cantine Aperte's renewed partnership with the AIRC Foundation for Cancer Research (ETS), the event's Charity Partner. With each tasting kit, visitors will donate €6 to AIRC, thus supporting cancer research. The kit includes a tasting, a glass, and a glass holder, which can be used throughout the day at participating wineries.

" I want to thank President Dubini and the entire Umbria Wine Tourism Movement for their ongoing support, which has allowed us to raise over €372,000 over the years. These funds have contributed to financing innovative research projects," adds Laura Radi , President of the Umbria Committee of the AIRC Foundation . "This year, too, we will be present at participating wineries with specific materials to raise public awareness of the importance of primary prevention ."

Reservations for tastings can be made directly with the wineries participating in the Umbria Wine Tourism Movement. For more information on the event and the wineries' programs, you can also visit the official website at mtvumbria.it/cantine-aperte-2026.

Open Cellars are exclusively those run by the Movimento Turismo del Vino (Wine Tourism Movement), which, by regulation, guarantee quality winery hospitality, responsible drinking education, and safety. Therefore, wine lovers are invited to attend the event only at the MTV Umbria member wineries listed.

For this edition of Cantine Aperte, the Umbria Wine Tourism Movement is supported by Screen Italia and the BCC of Spello and Velino.

Detailed programs for the Cantine Aperte dell'Umbria event are available on the website www.mtvumbria.it and on the Umbria Wine Tourism Movement's social media channels.
