Tullum DOCG presents Cinema Under the Stars: Tollo recounts its thousand-year history.

  • 10/07/2025

On Friday 25th July, the documentary Tullum Vinum Est will be previewed in the spaces of Feudo Antico, dedicated to the territory and the winemaking tradition of the denomination.

A visual journey into the memory of Tollo's winemaking tradition: this is the aim of the documentary Tullum Vinum Est , which will premiere on Friday, July 25th at the Feudo Antico winery in Tollo (Chieti). The event is part of the Cinema Sotto le Stelle initiative , promoted by the Tullum DOCG Consortium , which aims to celebrate the millennia-old history of local viticulture, from its roots in ancient Rome to the present day, and the Tullum DOCG denomination.

The video, created partly with the support of artificial intelligence, retraces centuries of traditions in one of the smallest wine-growing areas in Italy , showing how the cultivation of the vine has been a driving force of rebirth and collective identity .

"Our denomination is young, but our history has ancient roots," says Giancarlo Di Ruscio , President of the Consortium. "After the total destruction it suffered during the Second World War, Tollo was reborn thanks to the vine and the strength of its farming community. The documentary pays homage to that resilience and a cultural heritage that has never been interrupted. Technology has helped us enhance and narrate this memory with new tools, without betraying its soul."

The event will kick off at 6:30 PM with a guided tour of the archaeological site inside the Feudo Antico Museum , which houses the remains of a Roman villa rustica, evidence of the centrality of the vine even in Imperial times. This will be followed by a tasting of Tullum DOCG wines made from Passerina, Pecorino, and Montepulciano grape varieties, which find an ideal terroir in the Tollo hills, followed by the presentation of Tullum Vinum Est .

The evening will conclude with a screening of the film "Un mondo a parte ," written and directed by Riccardo Milani, set in Abruzzo and focusing on the depopulation of inland areas. In Tollo, this crisis has found a concrete solution and response in viticulture, capable of generating value, employment, and strong local roots. This crisis culminated in the establishment of the Tullum DOC in 2008, followed by the recognition of Controlled and Guaranteed Designation of Origin in 2019 .

Cinema under the Stars presents itself as an opportunity to learn about the history of the area and the journey of Tullum DOCG,” concludes Di Ruscio, “with the opportunity to explore its excellent wines firsthand in an evening dedicated to discovery and dialogue .”

The event is free but reservations are required.
