Trentino, with Uva e Surroundings a medieval hymn to the grape harvest

Among food and wine events, guided tours, concerts and shows in a typically medieval atmosphere, the Trentino village is hosting the XXII edition of the event dedicated to oenology and local history, one of the last major summer events in Vallagarina. Grand finale with the stage of the XX Palio delle Botti.

Territory, art, culture, history and traditions: these are the values that in recent years the community of Avio and the surrounding villages has been able to convey in " Uva e dintorni ", one of the most eagerly awaited late summer events in Vallagarina, an area south of Trento, which for over twenty years has attracted a large group of wine lovers, enthusiasts and tourists to the valley.

The enthralling weekend that celebrates the grape harvest and takes place in alternate years in Avio and Sabbionara di Avio , the picturesque hamlet dominated by the wonderful FAI heritage castle, protagonist of this 22nd edition , is scheduled from 1st to 3rd September . As always, it is organized by the committee of the same name in collaboration with the Municipality of Avio, with the support of Trentino Marketing and the coordination of the Trentino Wine and Flavors Route, as part of the promotion of the provincial wine events called #trentinowinefest.

The recipe for success of this now historic event? Undoubtedly the busy calendar of events designed to enhance not only the wine products and gastronomic specialties, but also the history of these places. It is no coincidence that "Uva e Dintorni" takes place in a suggestive medieval atmosphere , accompanied by performances by musicians, artists and jugglers.

A rich "three days" that will offer not only wine tastings, setting up of gastronomic courts dedicated to local culinary products and curious proposals such as the medieval dinner on Friday 1st September, but also guided tours of the vineyards and the castle , concerts, shows and re-enactments of medieval life.

Among the key events , the stage of the Palio delle Botti between the Cities of Wine , scheduled for Sunday 3 September at 2.30 pm . This year the cities of Avio, Brentino Belluno (Verona), Grignasco and Maggiora (Novara), Refrontolo and Vittorio Veneto (Treviso) and Suvereto (Livorno) are competing. The expectation is great, also because it is the very center of the Vallagarina that dominates this 20th edition

Grapes and surroundings was founded in 2001 with the aim of creating an important thematic event in the Trentino area and takes place, alternatively, one year in the Municipality of Avio and one year in the hamlet of Sabbionara di Avio, attracting an average of over 20 thousand visitors coming mainly from outside province. The event is organized by the Grape and Surroundings Committee in collaboration with the Municipality of Avio, thanks to the precious contribution of over 400 volunteers and Apt Rovereto Vallagarina and Monte Baldo, Cassa Rurale Vallagarina, BIM dell'Adige, Monte Baldo Natural Park, City of Wine, Community of Vallagarina, Viticulturists in Avio; with the support of Trentino Marketing, the coordination of the Strada del Vino e dei Sapori del Trentino in the context of the promotion of the provincial wine events called #trentinowinefest and the partnership of the FAI-Fondo Ambiente Italiano.

Profile of the National Palio delle Botti

The Palio Nazionale delle Botti, born from an idea of the National Association of Wine Cities to celebrate its first twenty years of activity in 2007, is now a "classic" event which, between spring and autumn, animates the lands of wine growing from year to year. The competition consists in rolling a 500-litre barrel along a route between a minimum of 600 meters and a maximum of 1500 meters in length, which must cross the streets of the host City of Wine. In Avio and Sabbionara di Avio, in particular, three other specialties are added to the push race: barefoot grape pressing, barrel filling and women's slalom.
