This year , 33 wines from Lombardy have obtained the Tre Bicchieri , the highest recognition awarded by Gambero Rosso's Vini d'Italia guide.
Meanwhile, a first consideration: Lombardy reconfirms itself as the queen of the Italian Classic Method with its Franciacorta and Oltrepò Pavese in full form, showing off awareness and maturity, lining up a long series of cuvées increasingly defined in their territorial imprint: low dosage and lots of character. 16 top awards: 12 Franciacorta and 4 Oltrepò Pavese, a territory that scores with as many still wines. In terms of vintages, the excellent performance of the 2018 vintage stands out, both in the Brescia area and in the Pavia area.
Added to the confirmations are the new features: on the shores of Lake Iseo there is a welcome among the Tre Bicchieri at two wineries: 1701, which has proposed a Franciacorta Dosaggio Riserva 2016 of impressive fragrance and progression, the second is I Barisei, with the refined and profound Riserva Francesco Battista 2013. Finally, and in a dazzling manner, Gatti also returns to the podium, with a Nature '16 of extraordinary elegance. Among the hills of the Oltrepò Pavese, the time strikes for the first Tre Bicchieri for Travaglino, a historic estate in Calvignano, which hits the mark with the Riesling Campo della Fojada Riserva 2019, graceful and profound. Strong positive signals are also coming from Garda, which is reorganizing its names.
The solid growth of Valtènesi and its main grape variety was also appreciated: Groppello, also in pink, an increasingly inspired model for those looking for delicate, chiseled wines, rich in detail and finesse. Remaining on the Brescia shores of the lake, different versions of Lugana are also highlighted, increasingly defined in style and territorial adherence.
But the Lombardy of wine is appreciated for its varied offer which takes us to incredible territories: think of the vineyards of Botticino , between marble quarries and woods, of the vineyards of Lake Como , of authentic gems such as Moscato di Scanzorosciate , the smallest DOCG in Italy. And without neglecting the Bordeaux reds of Valcalepio and Capriano del Colle with its red clays. The palmares ends with an area in the heart of great wine enthusiasts: Valtellina. Few numbers, a lot of effort, great quality. Also in this edition, the graceful and very fine reds are highly appreciated, capable of combining expressive naturalness and safe aging potential
