The white wine of the year is Sicilian

Alta Mora Arrigo 2023 Etna Bianco Doc from Cusumano , a Sicilian winery led by Diego and Alberto Cusumano , among the most appreciated wine producers at national and international level, is the White Wine of the Year for Gambero Rosso, also winning the Tre Bicchieri of the Guida Vini d'Italia 2027 , the maximum score assignable.

Of the thousands of white wines tasted blind throughout Italy, only a hundred or so achieve the top Tre Bicchieri score. From these finalists, the Guide's editors select just one that represents the year's pinnacle of quality, rewarding not only the wine's pleasantness, but also its production rigor , its fidelity to its terroir , its aging potential , and the varietal's distinctiveness.

An important recognition, therefore, for a white wine of great character, the Alta Mora Arrigo 2023 Etna Bianco DOC, made from the finest Carricante grapes grown in the Arrigo district , from which it takes its name, on the northern slope of Etna. The coolness of the soil allows the Carricante to fully ripen without distorting its aromas, enhancing the character and complexity of this native volcanic grape.

"Alta Mora Arrigo 2023 Etna Bianco is born in a territory at 610 meters above sea level, on ancient soil, rich in organic matter, made of volcanic sands and lava rocks dating back to an eruption in 1180, where it meets the mountain air of Etna on one side and the sea breeze from Taormina on the other. The strong temperature variations between day and night thus favor a slow maturation, which preserves freshness and flavor. The aging then takes place in a cellar designed according to modern underground architecture, thermoregulated by the lava rock and protected from light and temperature changes," explains Diego Cusumano.

This year's awards join the Tre Bicchieri obtained by Etna Rosso Alta Mora 2022 in the 2026 Vini d'Italia Guide, along with those awarded to Etna Bianco 2023 in the 2025 Guide and to Etna Rosso Alta Mora Guardiola in the 2024 Guide.
