The curtain fell yesterday evening on the Barbera D'Asti Wine Festival, an event that from 6 to 15 September explored and celebrated the queen of Monferrato, Barbera, the third most cultivated red grape variety in Italy. Vitaliano Maccario , President of the Consortium , concludes by highlighting the historical importance of the event: " This first edition of the Barbera D'Asti Wine Festival was a great success, we are truly delighted that the guests who followed one another day after day accepted our invitation and came to testify their bond with wine and the territory. We had a warm response from the public, however we can still improve and we aim to involve a greater number of people in the next editions. Not only that, it was a moment in which all the producers, whom I thank, came together to communicate the origins, the binding history and the uniqueness of our territory. As a Consortium we hope that this is only the first of many future editions to fully convey the beauty and the thousand nuances of Barbera and our territory ". The event, held in Asti in the heart of Monferrato, from 6 to 8 September, with the artistic direction of Luciano Ferraro , deputy director of Corriere della Sera , Media Partner of the event, proposed a rich program of meetings that has seen important guests from the world of wine and cinema, literature, art and business, such as the actor and director Neri Marcorè, the writer Stefania Auci, the singer-songwriter Giorgio Conte. Since September 9, the event has instead focused on the study of wines, bringing Barbera d'Asti and the excellence of Monferrato to the center, with masterclasses led by the greatest Italian and international experts in the world of wine such as Veronika Crecelius, Gianni Fabrizio, Aldo Fiordelli, Andrea Gori, Othmar Kiem, Jeffrey Porter, Andrea Radic, Paolo Porfidio and Marco Sabellico. “ Barbera is a territorial vine that unmistakably identifies a zone, an area, that of Monferrato and with every sip this characteristic is found in the glass; despite the differences in terroir or processing of the grapes and the wine, the true characteristic of this vine is its inseparability from its territory. – summarizes Costantino Gabardi, organizer of the event, at the end of the week of masterclasses. To complete the calendar of events, every day, Palazzo Alfieri opened its doors to all enthusiasts and wine lovers, offering them the opportunity to discover and learn more about the uniqueness of this grape variety at the tasting tables and through face-to-face meetings with the producers. “ A special thanks goes to Corriere della Sera, which as media partner and with the guidance of Luciano Ferraro created the program for the first three days, to Banca d'Asti, sponsor of the event, to the Chamber of Commerce, to the architect Filippo Cornero, to the entire Douja D'Or organization, to all the local and national institutions that made the realization of this great project possible. ” concludes the President of the Consortium.
