As always, the grapes for the Alta Langa are the first to be harvested in Piedmont; the harvest will continue until the first days of September, depending on the different exposures and altitudes.
If the beginning of the month of August was characterized by a significant temperature range between day and night which favored the perfect development of the bunch, the particularly intense heat of these days is rapidly accelerating the ripening of the Pinot noir and Chardonnay grapes at different altitudes. Even in the higher altitude vineyards, where veraison was not completed in recent weeks, we are now witnessing rapid maturation.
The grapes are healthy and with excellent pigmentation.
A slight quantitative decrease was recorded, due to the decrease in summer rainfall and some episodes of bad weather, in particular the consistent hailstorm that affected the vineyards in the areas between Neviglie, Benevello, Borgomale and Lequio Berria on the afternoon of 6 July. President Mariacristina Castelletta says: “Ours is a special and growing denomination. The base of members is increasing and, thanks to the opening of the tender, our vineyard will expand significantly in the coming years. From a consortium point of view, we continue to invest to increase and consolidate the value of the Alta Langa DOCG appellation. A classic method sparkling wine which, also due to the rules of its disciplinary (wines always vintage and with a minimum of 30 months of aging in the bottle), can only be a distinctive and high quality product. The Pinot Noir and Chardonnay grapes we are harvesting these days will only become excellent Alta Langa glasses at the beginning of 2027: it is also for this reason that we feel so unique”.
