The Italian government protects great Italian wines with the Italian flag. Starting in 2026, ARSIAL will introduce the Italian State Seal for the Roma DOC Consortium.

Today, the Lazio Region and ARSIAL, along with the Istituto Poligrafico e Zecca dello Stato (IPZS), presented the Italian state seal for bottles of the Roma DOC Consortium at the Mint Museum in Rome. This high-security tool marks a strategic step for the entire regional winemaking sector.

The Certificate, produced by IPZS as a security certificate, integrates traceability technologies and anti-counterfeiting systems similar to those used for banknotes and protected documents. Through a unique QR code and the Digital Product Passport, each bottle can be recognized, verified, and tracked throughout the entire supply chain. At the instigation of ARSIAL, the Roma DOC Consortium approved the adoption of the new system, while the Agency funded the first million certificates, equivalent to the entire annual production claimed as DOC, to ensure an immediate, uniform launch, and at no cost to companies.

The event was attended by the Minister of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty, and Forestry, Francesco Lollobrigida; the Regional Councilor for Agriculture, Giancarlo Righini; the President of ARSIAL, Massimiliano Raffa; the President of the Roma DOC Consortium, Rossella Macchia; and the CEO of IPZS, Michele Sciscioli. This overwhelming participation testifies to the strategic importance of the initiative for the protection and promotion of Lazio's designations.

THE STATEMENTS

"With the Italian flag of the State Printing Office on the Roma DOC labels, we promote the Consortium's work, guarantee the authenticity and certified quality of our products, and defend Made in Italy from fraud and imitations ," commented Minister of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty, and Forestry, Francesco Lollobrigida . "Agriculture in Lazio is now supported by the most important delegation, that of the budget: this means more resources, more development, and greater prospects for the entire sector. The State Printing Office, guarantor of authenticity, helps us protect a precious asset, the true strength of our agricultural system, a sector that is finally returning to prominence in Lazio thanks to investments and a strategic vision."

"This label represents a decisive step forward in the protection and promotion of our denominations," said Giancarlo Righini , Regional Councilor for Agriculture, Food Sovereignty, and the Budget. " With the introduction of such an advanced traceability system, Lazio once again demonstrates its ability to combine tradition and innovation, offering producers a tool that strengthens their competitiveness on the market and consumers a guarantee of authenticity and quality. The Region wholeheartedly supports this project because it is part of a broader strategy: protecting the value of our agricultural businesses' work and promoting a transparent, secure, and forward-looking supply chain model. Wine is one of the symbols of our region's identity, and investing in its recognition means investing in our economy, our culture, and our international reputation. We will continue to work together with ARSIAL, the Roma DOC Consortium, and all the sector's stakeholders to develop Lazio's wine region with modern, effective tools that live up to its excellence."

"The introduction of the State Seal for the Roma DOC Consortium stems from ARSIAL's specific commitment: to strengthen the protection, recognition, and positioning of Lazio wine through concrete, modern, and truly useful tools for companies, " stated ARSIAL President Massimiliano Raffa . " The data confirms this: over 52% of consumers check for seals or labels to ensure the authenticity of the product. A qualitative leap was therefore necessary. This is why ARSIAL supported and promoted this process from the beginning, funding the first million seals: a clear signal of the desire to allow all the Consortium's companies to launch together and without additional costs. The seal is not a formal detail, but a strategic element: it offers security against fraud and imitations, makes the supply chain more transparent, and strengthens Lazio's positioning on national and international markets. Integration with the Digital Product Passport also enhances the ability to communicate history, territory, and sustainability—critical aspects for today's consumers." ARSIAL will continue to support the Roma DOC Consortium, promoting the label in promotional activities and bringing this new identity to our international group events. Our commitment is to provide producers with tools that enhance the value of their work and give Lazio wine an increasingly strong, solid, and recognizable reputation.

"We have reached a milestone of fundamental importance ," emphasizes Rossella Macchia, president of the Consorzio Vini Roma DOC, " not only for our denomination and our wineries, but for the entire region and the winemaking tradition it preserves. The state seal recognizes the qualitative excellence of our wines, the culmination of a shared journey that forges a profound connection between our region's winemaking history, a focus on sustainability, and a continued commitment to research. I would like to sincerely thank Minister Lollobrigida, who honored us with her presence, Lazio Regional Councilor Giancarlo Righini, and ARSIAL President Massimiliano Raffa for believing, alongside us, in the extraordinary potential of our vineyards. It is thanks to the synergy between institutions and producers that we have consolidated our identity over the years, projecting ourselves with strength and credibility into international markets. Finally, I would also like to thank Michele Sciscioli, CEO of the Istituto Poligrafico, for his prestigious hospitality."

"Starting in the new year, the Roma DOC consortium will also apply the Italian flag seal for the first time. Created by Poligrafico at the request of the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty, and Forestry, it represents a cutting-edge anti-counterfeiting tool and a guarantee of quality for consumers. The band featuring the symbol of the Italian state and the Italian flag protects and promotes our food and wine excellence. I thank Minister Lollobrigida, Councilor Righini, ARSIAL President Raffa, and the President of the Roma DOC Consortium Macchia for their presence today at the Mint Museum and for celebrating this important milestone together," said Michele Sciscioli , CEO of the Istituto Poligrafico e Zecca dello Stato.
