NAS-CËTTA DI NOVELLO CELEBRATES 10 YEARS OF DOC

The first official presentation of the Nas-cëtta Producers Association of the Municipality of Novello took place in recent days, in the presence of over 40 journalists and representatives of the institutions of the world of wine. Nas-cëttaland Virtual, this is the name given to the event, is only the first step of a wider project that aims to (re) discover the Nas-cëtta and its territory . The next appointment, this time in Novello, is set for June 2021 for two days to discover not only the cellars of the 11 producers, but the many excellences of this little gem of the Langhe. The event, which will be called Nas-cëttaland , will be aimed at journalists, industry experts and enthusiasts who will have the opportunity to visit the cellars and tasting stands; there will also be moments of in-depth analysis, including guided tastings and seminars.

The producers who joined the Association took part in the virtual meeting as "hosts": Stefano Pesci ( Arnaldo Rivera ), Savio Daniele ( Az. Agr. Le Strette ), Luca Marenco ( Luca Marenco ), Marco Taricco ( Az. Agr. La Pergola ), Silvio Cogno ( Az. Agr. Cascina Gavetta ), Davide Vietto ( Az. Agr. Vietto ), Paolo Sartirano ( Sansilvestro ), Omar Sanino ( Casa Baricalino ), Daniele Marengo ( Az. Vitivincola Marengo Mauro ), Maresa Stra ( Az. Agr. Stra ) and Valter Fissore ( Elvio Cogno ), who led the meeting as President of the Association.

A unique opportunity for the participants to taste the wines of the 11 producers of the 2018 and 2019 vintages and celebrate the tenth anniversary of the inclusion of the Nas-cëtta di Novello in the Doc Langhe. Among the participants also the President of AIS Piedmont Fabio Gallo.

<< It was a very interesting tasting moment, especially for having made the acquaintance of small and emerging realities that in part I did not yet know. - said Gallo - The enthusiasm and determination were perceived in their comments and in the story of their cellars. As for wine, the character of Nas-cëtta did not surprise me. The samples presented were all of high profile, but above all linked by a precise "leitmotiv" of expression and elegance. I think they are wines of great interest for the market, the important thing will be to make them known ".

An important step in the knowledge was the tasting, which allowed to discover also the history of this grape from the voices of those who rediscovered it and brought it back into the limelight after years of oblivion. The first evidence of Nas-cëtta in the municipality of Novello dates back to the 1800s, a period in which authoritative sources speak of it as "a very delicate grape and an exquisite wine" with characteristics similar to the Rhine Rieslings; however a delicate and unproductive grape, for this reason long forgotten in favor of more productive vines such as Nebbiolo da Barolo which has made Langhe famous throughout the world. Rediscovered in the early 90s , this indigenous grape variety owes its success to the tenacity and passion of a handful of producers.
