Murgo - VII edition of Jazz in Vigna and Jeroboam by Barone Emanuele Pas Dosé

  • 23/06/2026

Murgo inaugurates Jazz in the Vineyard with the largest bottle ever made in Sicily. The music festival kicks off June 28th with Paolo Fresu.

Murgo kicks off the seventh edition of Jazz in Vigna with an exceptional event: the presentation of Barone Emanuele Pas Dosé's Jeroboam. This is the first time a large format like this has been produced in Sicily through direct bottle fermentation. The highly anticipated seventh edition of Jazz in Vigna at Tenuta San Michele will be opened by Paolo Fresu.

A debut combining winemaking excellence and great jazz music: the presentation of the first bottle of Murgo 's Jeroboam-sized Classic Method sparkling wine, produced in Sicily , will open the seventh edition of Jazz in Vigna on June 28th. The 2016 Barone Emanuele Pas Dosé sparkling wine will symbolically open the summer festival that annually transforms Tenuta San Michele, on the slopes of Mount Etna, into one of the most evocative stages of Sicilian culture and music. This is the largest format ever produced in Sicily through direct bottle fermentation, and the label could only be that of the Etna winery's most eagerly awaited sparkling wine: this Classic Method sparkling wine made from Nerello Mascalese grapes expresses the most authentic identity of Etna's eastern slope, without added sugar, to convey maximum territorial purity, aromatic precision, and mineral tension in the glass. The 2016 vintage Jeroboam version represents an unprecedented experiment for Sicilian sparkling wine. The Jeroboam—equivalent to four standard bottles—was obtained through direct refermentation in the bottle , rather than racking, a complex and rarely used technique that allows for superior qualitative evolution of the wine over time. “ Large formats have always represented an extraordinary opportunity for aging,” explains Michele Scammacca del Murgo, winemaker and owner of the winery with his family. “ The ratio between the volume of the wine and the surface area of the cork reduces the ingress of oxygen, favoring a slower and more harmonious maturation. In our case, it is a 2016 vintage Classic Method, aged on the lees for approximately eight years, produced in extremely limited quantities: just seventy bottles .” An experimental and artisanal project, made even more complex by the technical difficulties associated with the disgorgement of large formats, but destined to mark a new milestone in the history of Sicilian and Etna sparkling wine. This moment will ideally be sealed with the opening concert by Paolo Fresu , one of the most respected trumpet players on the international jazz scene, who will take the stage alongside Dino Rubino, Marco Bardoscia, and Stefano Bagnoli, in a refined tribute to the musical universe of Miles Davis. Now in its seventh year, Jazz in Vigna —produced in collaboration with the Monk Jazz Club—confirms itself as one of the most anticipated cultural events of the Sicilian summer. Previous editions have attracted over 4,000 attendees and numerous sold-out performances, featuring artists such as Francesco Cafiso, Alfio Antico, and Paolo Fresu himself. Produced in extremely limited quantities—just a few dozen— Barone Emanuele Pas Dosé's 2016 Jeroboams mark a new milestone in Murgo's nearly forty-year journey of research and innovation in promoting the Etna Classic Method.
