A path that started at the beginning of the second half of August with the harvest of the grapes that make up the basis of the sparkling wines and then came to an end at the end of September with the last red grape varieties with medium-late ripening. It is a positive balance that traced by Cantina Lavis after the harvest, which involved the approximately 800 members who care for 750 hectares of vineyards located in the hills of Lavis, Sorni and Meano, among the characteristic terraces of the Cembra Valley, up to Isera in Vallagarina, as well as some plots in the South Tyrolean territory. "The impressions are certainly positive both from a qualitative and quantitative point of view " comments the oenologist Ezio Dallagiacoma. " As regards the white berried grapes we observe the presence of a very interesting aromatic profile and a nice olfactory intensity, while for the red berried one the fruity components and the overall freshness stand out ".
Retracing the agronomic season, the 2020 vintage was characterized by the presence of a favorable climatic trend at the start of the season found in all the areas where the members of the Lavis winery grow their grapes. "Unlike last year, this year there were no excessive climatic changes" continues Dallagiacoma. "Overall the evolution of the grapes in 2020 can therefore be considered regular, with the presence of clusters that have matured in a healthy way. Of course, the rains of June, July and August required a particular effort in the vineyard to avoid the onset of diseases However, thanks to the experience and dedication of the members of our winery, the situation was well managed and led to a good quality harvest " . The harvest officially began on 19 August, despite the mild temperatures suggesting an advance of at least a week. "In reality, we have not diverged much from the 2018 harvest", always comments the winemaker of the cellar.
As for the individual varieties that Cantina Lavis raises in the various territories in which its members operate, there is satisfaction both for the general balance achieved and, in particular, for the overall maturity of the medium-late grapes. "In some hilly areas, in particular for the later varieties grown at high altitudes, we have found qualitative peaks that give us hope. They will give rise to wines of character and good longevity" .
"It is a vintage that we certainly archive among those of a good level - concludes Dellagiacoma -. Our members have been very good at managing the vineyards during the summer rains, as well as at selecting the grapes with great accuracy during the harvest according to the different types. of wine we produce " .
