20 JANUARY 2023 - 10:00 am G. PENNA Higher State Education Institute VIATOSTO, 54 - ASTI.
We are pleased to invite you to the presentation of the scientific project called "AGEBA - recovery and valorisation of ancient barbera germplasm for adaptation to climate change" - which has as its objective the selection and study of old stocks of the Barbera vine planted in the pre-clonal era. The study focuses on the analysis of the genetic heritage of these "ancient strains" and on the experimentation of innovative cultivation techniques useful for countering or at least mitigating the impacts of climate change on the vine. Individual strains of Barbera will be identified and valorised, planted during the clonal pre-selection period (until the 70s of the last century) bearing characteristics useful for the purposes of adaptation to climate change and free from the main viruses, Flavescence dorée and black wood. The final aim is to identify the relative impacts on the Barbera vine since the high and sometimes extreme temperatures of the summer period cause a high increase in the alcohol content and a significant drop in acidity in the wines. Finally, the study and recovery of the genetic heritage of ancient stocks of the Barbera vine brings new technical elements and greater awareness of the adaptation of the vine to new climatic conditions. The conference will be held on Friday 20 January 2023 at 10:00 at the G. Penna Institute of Higher State Education in Località Viatosto 54 in Asti. Please confirm your participation at f.teodo@viniastimonferrato.it or on 0141 324368.
